I have seen red material of some kind in the fancy feast wet food lately.
I have seen it in chicken and tuna and also in the chuncky chicken.
It is there after it has sat awhile.
can't describe it but it is a light red and lots of it.
has anyone else seen red?

Re: what is the red stuff in fancy feast?

Maryjo, I feed both those flavors and never see any red. How long are you letting it sit out, and, is it sitting in the heat or in an air-conditioned room? I don't know if that would make a difference or not with the color. Maybe you could try setting out less food to avoid that issue. I don't think I would feed it if it turned red. If you have specific concerns you might call the fancy feast co and check on the lot numbers.

Best,
Pam & Layla

Re: what is the red stuff in fancy feast?

Can you take a picture of the red stuff the next time you see and post it here? It could just be coagulated fat/gravy or maybe an ingredient that didn't get mixed in well.

Call the manufacturer.

Could be (hope not) bacterial or mold growth .

I would not feed it until you find out for sure.

Re: what is the red stuff in fancy feast?

If i see the red stuff again i will take a picture.

It was in some food i had put down at night and the next morning i saw it.
It was in an air conditioned room.

In the chuncky chicken there was a large area throughout. At first i thought
one of my cats must be bleeding but it was not blood;
I even had my son look at it and he said that is not blood. not the color of blood.

The same thing was in Smokie's stool when she had diarrhea(small amount)
I wonder if ever what it was could have caused her diarrhea.

i do not have the id numbers on the cans but i am looking at the food real good everyday.

Yikes! Id definetely return it! Not knowing what it is, I wouldnt take the chance. I would contact the manufactuer and try to get an answer though. Good luck!

Just from looking at the picture, I have to ask.
Could it be blood? Have you looked in kitty's mouth? looks like it could be blood around nibble bites.
I would definitely call.

Thanks for asking but it isn't blood. I checked both kitties and their mouth was ok.
I put this dish of food out where they could not get to it and left it overnight.
The red stuff was in the middle of the food. I scraped the top off and there it was.

I called the manufactor and they said the food is this color from spoilage.
I've never had this to happen before. Half the cans in this case of food were dented
really bad. purina had told me in the past that sometimes there will be just a hairline
crack in the can of food that cannot even be seen and this can cause spoilage.
