My dear Tosca was pretty much well regulated with 0.25U Lantus, staying most of the day on green, and blue before shots. And then suddenly we get only yellow and blue, significant blood sugar increase. Nothing in her environment or behavior changed. She behaves the same playful, affective, and happy way, as always. No change at home in terms of stress, food or anything else.

So I increase her insuline in 0.25 steps. But then on Saturday I started to think that maybe there is a problem with the insuline vial. So I got a new one. Interestingly enough, on the new insuline vial she had her first greens last night.

Tosca is a rescue and getting her in the carrier for the vet is difficult and makes her very stressed. The vets, though good on other issues, provided misguided information on diabetes in the past, so I didn't rush to the vet yet.

My question is, how to dose now? I decreased this morning- not earned decrease- because I thought that, if the insuline was the culprit, I risk to overdose with the new vial. So I thought of going gradually back to her regular dose from before. Am I wrong?

What else could have happened. I read a little about insuline toxicity but I find it hard to grasp and identify.

Thank you for inputs!

I’m sorry no one has got back to you sooner in this.
Did you check her teeth to see there was no problems and also getting a urine sample checked would be a good idea as both those things can increase the BGs.

With that green BGs showing up again, it is possible it was the insulin
I am glad you went back to 1 unit. I don’t think you can go back to 0.25 units at the moment. I would follow the TR protocol to get her back into better numbers. You may find you have to do a couple of more increases before you get back to greens. let us know how you get on and have any more questions.
