I have spent alot of time reading the articles on here along with lots of posts and then some. Now I am more confused than ever on what food to try for my pancreatic & diabetic cat. The only thing that I know for sure is that I am NOT going to continue giving him the vet prescribed Hills W/D dry food. My cat was diagnosed 7 yrs ago with pancreatitis and I switched him over to HIlls C/D wet and hard food and he had no major flare ups but now on W/D dry and C/D wet with new diabetes diagnosis. After all the reading, it is clear that the W/D food is NOT the answer as too much junk in it and way too many carbs. I have seen alot of good posts on the Feline Pride but many articles point out that pancreatic cats still do better with More carbs than this food provides. (But not as much as the many of the other foods). A couple of articles pointed closer to 10-15% carbs as being ideal for cats with diabetes and pancreatitis. So, rather than get more and more confused I wanted to hear from everyone else on what they give their cat that works for pancreatits and diabetes! Please let me know so I can make a more informed decision.. As all of you know with these 2 conditions, the less you switch foods around the better!

To what articles are you referring when you say you're reading that cats with pancreatitis do better with "more carbs?" Sometimes low fat is suggested as being better than higher fat food. The only thing I can offer to that is that I was feeding Gandalf Wellness Core canned before he got pancreatitis and that is one of the highest fat content canned foods out there. Cats process fats differently though, so this may just be an assumption because low fat is p-titis treatment for humans and dogs. See this article: http://www.2ndchance.info/pancreatitiscat.htm

Re: What food do you give your cat with Diabetes & Pancreati

My Annie is recently diagnosed Diabetic and Pancreatitis. We feed her Wellness Grain Free Chicken, and Turkey. We kept her on this food, i add some extra water in with it, and i make sure the food isn't cold as i think cold food can be harder on their system. I read that somewhere. I didn't really get advice as to what food is better for her Pancreatitis, but she was also on antibiotics and Steroids, and it seems to have subsided but she goes in for a check up on monday to see.

Pancreatitis can raise bg levels in cats, as well as steroids, so be careful not to up the dose until the Pancreatitis has subsided because once her flare up is gone, her bg numbers will drop

My Bobbie was diagnosed with pancreatitis last May. She was also diagnosed at the same time with diaebtes. We came close to losing her. After a rocky start on insulin and Hills RX food(she hated it), I found this place. I got great advice, learned home testing , got her onto Friskies Classic Pate she was OTJ in 2 days and has done great ever since. Her favorite flavor is turkey and giblets. I noticed this week she is finally beginning to put some weight back on.
