Now that Casey's been diagnosed with pancreatitis, I'd like to know what's the best food to feed her. Any suggestions? Currently she's on 9 Lives canned pates, like Super Supper, Turkey & Giblets, etc.
While fat may not be implicated in feline pancreatitis, for some cats it can be a problem so feeding a diet with a moderate fat content just makes sense to me. When one of my diabetic cats suddenly became acutely ill with pancreatitis and hepatic lipidosis, I started looking for quality foods that had close to equal levels of protein and fat and still be low carb. Many premium foods have twice as much fat as protein and I've wondered if that doesn't contribute to the increasing cases of pancreatitis. My boy has done well for more than a year on Merrick's Cowboy Cookout, Grammy's Pot Pie and Surf & Turf.
My Vandow has chronic pancreatitis and has been a challange. He never fully recovered from his acute attack in Sept 2010. I'm just happy when he eats. Hopefully this is not the case for your cat. If it is keep in mind that it is important that cats eat and some cats will not eat the food that is good for them. I have read that fat content really isn't an issue. I think a high quality food is always a plus. I tend to stay away from rich foods with a lot of gravy for all my cats.
