What do you do when you take vacation?

I am still new to this, and this is something I have been stressing about since Gordy was diagnosed...

I am going away for a week and a half next week. I've arranged for a pet sitter (with diabetes experience! score!) to come twice a day and give Gordy's his meds and attention and all that jazz. I am confident that will be fine.

My question is, when you've had a sitter come, do you keep the dose the same? Gordy is not super regulated (but I am seeing consistent numbers) and I'm still working on his perfect dose. He was fine with the 2U (just not very low) and seems to be good on the 2.5U, but the dose change is new. I am thinking of having her do just the 2U to keep his numbers below the red and it's easier to measure... What do you guys think???

Usually, if we leave our diabetic cats, we do reduce the dose because they can't be watched as closely and may not eat as well as they do when they're around a stranger.

You might want to ask again a couple days before you actually leave...A lot can happen in a few days in the world of a diabetic cat

Will pet sitter also check his blood?

We recently went on vacation and feared the same. We decided to keep his dosage at his regular amount and just had pet sitter check blood before administering dosage. Have a conversation with them and tell them you're worries — if they have experience with diabetic kitties, they'll be cautious with dosage too.

She has vet tech experience and will be testing before each shot.

I think I'll have her do a reduced dose while I'm gone. He was at 94 last night.
