Hey all...my cat's numbers have been all over the place since he was hypo. 3 days ago. I've been trying to keep the dry food away but will put it down for a short period of time because my cat is 10 pounds and skinny. His appetite is not so well so even tho he acts hungry he might just sniff the food and walk away or stare at it. His feeding times for wet food are 7:30am/pm. Here's the tests I've done starting Saturday.
Saturday
1:57am- 248 (had received 1 unit PZ at 7:30pm Friday after a pmps of 367.)
7:50am- 370, gave 1 unit, ate wet food OK, didn't finish it and was reluctant
12:39pm- 357
7:30pm- 403, 1.5 units ...tried a raw food recipe but wouldn't go for it altho he was interested in the raw chicken before we cut and mixed everything so hopefully a different recipe will be successful)...he had some of his Soulistic wet food for a meal
Sunday
1:40am- 74..made me nervous because he hadn't eaten very much but his number dropped drastically..had him eat some dry food (prescription w/d..bad I know)
2:30am- 109
7:30am- 260, I figured it was best to give no insulin since 1.5 units made him go from 400's to 70's (thoughts?)
11:30am- 340
5:15pm-465

..The dry food has been put down and taken away thru out the day so I'm not sure how much he's eaten. This is driving me crazy!! I don't want another hypo episode and another trip to the emergency vet in the middle of the night

Hi Christina,
I am going to recommend that you post on the prozinc link.
That is where I am from and everyone there is so helpful
they will help you get a spreadsheet together and help with dosing and hypo's
They are a really wonderful group there so I highly recommend it

Are you only feeding at shot times and not in between? That could also be part of the problem. It is best to split up meals so they are easier to process a little at a time rather than 2 big meals most of the time. My kiddos get food at preshot, +3 and +6. Your times can vary depending on your schedule, but I'd at least try to get a +3 or +4 feeding in there before the height of the insulin kicks in. If you need to stick with only preshot feedings, then I'd cut back to 1.25u. If you can put more feedings in, then you will probably be fine with 1.5u. That 74 is not a number to be scared about though. We just don't want him going below 50 if we can at all help it!
