What do I do?

Marley’s BG is the lowest it’s been since his diagnosis. It’s. 154.8. I know that doesn’t seem low but for him it’s quite low. I don’t feel comfortable giving him the usual 2.5 units. I’d be up all night worrying. I feel like I should just give him 1 unit. But I don’t know if I should be bouncing around like that with the dosage. It’s weird cuz it was 403 just 2 days ago. Suggestions?

If you haven’t fed him, you can stall for 30 minutes, recheck, and if it’s gone up, you can shoot the full dose.

If you’ve fed, you can give him a one-time reduced dose of 2u.

Thanks for answering. I did feed him. I just gave him 1.5 units. I didn’t want to wait too long cuz I like to stay on schedule. I just wonder why he went down so much. I just worry that the BG number was just the start of some weird continual decline for some reason and if I dose him it’s gonna bring on the decline even faster.
Thanks so much for your input.

You don’t have enough data to make any determinations for him but in most newly diagnosed cats, the BG will go up and down.

I don’t know if you haven’t been testing or haven’t filled in data. However, if it’s the former, you are putting him at great risk. You should get a test every single time before you shoot. If you are home at +2, that’s another important test. Then you should get another test mid cycle during the day, if you can. If you aren’t home, grab one as soon as you get home and at night, in addition to the +2, get a before bed test. Cats often go low at night.

Here is an important post to read about how to post here. You should also start reading the stickys at the top of this forum.

Please be sure you get a +1 test to be sure he’s headed up.

I do always test before shots. I don’t always post in the am due to time constraints. I’m aware that I don’t test near as frequently as most members on here. There’s a couple reasons. One being that I simply don’t have the opportunity during the day. Another is that Marley absolutely hates it and it stresses him out. So I keep it to a minimum but make sure to do the crucial times.
