Wet food in Alberta Canada - Need suggestions!

Hello everyone :)

Ok so I've posted in my other threads a bit about food... but I'm having a hard time finding some of the types that other friendly folks on the board are suggesting.... I can't find anywhere in stores or on Canadian websites Fancy Feast gluten free. So I'm betting it's not sold in Canada - or at least Alberta!

I do not live near a wal-mart or Costco. So I'm relying on websites that offer shipping.

Right now we're feeding Whiskas wet food that comes in the resealable containers because it is the highest protein and doesn't list any grains on the label, but it's .85 a container and I have two cats to feed. So that's over $3 a day if I feed the suggested serving, or just over $100 a month on cat food. There's got to be a better way?? I can't seem to find this food in bulk cases either.

Is there anyone in Canada that can suggest what they are feeding and maybe I can find it? Or is there a good website you have found where I can have it shipped up? I would feed raw if I could get some but none of the websites I could find will ship it (obviously, has to stay frozen/fresh)...

hi there

u may want to add ALBERTA to your main subject line - there are some members out there, that may help catch their eye.
I'm guessing you tried Pet Value, Global Ryan and smaller independent pet stores?

Lemme see what I can do to send the word out.

Re: Wet food in Canada - Need suggestions!

I buy my raw cat food from the Bone and Biscuit which has stores in Alberta. Check out http://www.theboneandbiscuitcompany.com/locations.php for locations. My store also carries canned Wellness and their chicken, turkey, and beef and chicken flavours are all LC. Large cans of Wellness are reasonably priced and available at most pet food specialty stores in B.C., even in Petsmart now.

I need places that will ship... I don't live in a large centre so i can't just go out to a store and buy it... so if anyone has any Canadian websites where I can order food please let me know...

I've looked into raw and would feed it to my pets but no one will ship it because it has to stay fresh/frozen.... and I've looked into making it myself but it's way too expensive and I just don't have a source up here for that kind of thing..

Try this: http://www.carpfm.ca/members.html You may be able to order directly from the comapnies.

This raw food brand is sold in several places in Alberta: http://www.carnivora.ca/html/retailers/index.cfm

Raw food is typically shipped in a styrofoam box with ice packs to keep the food frozen.

Maybe instead of buying raw pet food, you can semi-make it yourself at home. You buy your own raw meat from the supermarket or butcher shop, grind or finely chop the meat yourself at home (store bought ground meat has bacteria mixed throughout) and add in a premix. The premix contains all the vitamins and minerals a cat needs. TC Feline is one brand and is available in Canada. You can buy it online http://mycatfoodstore.3dcartstores.com/

Do you know anyone who travels into a nearby city on a regular basis that has a Superstore? They carry both the Friskies Pate varieties and the President's Choice Finicky Cat tins -- both low-carb and in the range of 55-65 cents a can. Superstore usually has a lot of stock on their shelves and, since the food doesn't spoil, it would be possible to stock up with a supply for a month or more in one visit.

Presidents Choice is good and cheap, however, I found the Turkey and Giblets flavor in the big green can made Scooter puke a lot. He might've been allergic to something in it. Western Family Gourmet are small FF-like tins, those are good too, I found them on sale for .40 each at a renovating Cooper Foods and stocked up a while back.. I currently feed the Whiskas resealable ones you are feeding, however my Walmart has them on sale for .50 each so I raid all the chicken dinner ones every time I'm in there

I have NOT been able to find a good online distributor of pet food. Shipping in Canada is just WAY too expensive to make it worth it.

Yes, it sounds like it's an allergy or sensitivity to something. That flavour is Boo's favourite!

I do have an Extra Foods which is like superstore, but they are hardly stocked up... I might have to sweet talk the manager into making a special order just for me...

I think you're right about the shipping. I live in the north and one downside to that is that nothing goes on sale lol I feel like we are gouged at our grocery store :?

I just had a friend go the city and texted a picture of the case of FF that I wanted and they came back with something completely different.... and full of gluten.... people just don't get it...

I bet they'd do it. After all, as long as they know they're going to sell the product, it's a convenient way for them to make extra profit. Offer to pay upfront, if necessary. And even if there's an extra cost, it's still likely to be cheaper than ordering a high-end cat-food online.

Turns out, I have to go to Edmonton next week, so I'm going to pick some up, and also a small amount of raw food to test it out and see if they like it

Hi, I was wondering if you had any success with the raw food and if so, which store you bought it from. I live west-end Edmonton and we do have a raw food place over here (tail blazers at 170 st and 100 ave - ish) but I'm not sure if they just sell raw dog food or if they sell stuff for cats. Anyways, also curious if you found a place to order online or if you're just stocking up in town?
