It's been three weeks since he was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis); it's always fatal. He's hanging in there, goes for walks every day across the road (shudder!!) to his favorite yard, where he hangs out under their trees. Eventually, he staggers home like a sweet little old drunk knowing he needs to be home before dark. We're spoiling him and giving him everything he wants, lots of petting, and endless amounts of "good kitties". I want to pick him up and hold him, but I'm afraid it might be painful or uncomfortable. He actually doesn't seem to be in any pain?? Hey!! He caught a chipmunk just the other day! Okay, it was a slow, nearsighted, great-granny chipmunk, but ......well, I thought he did it VERY WELL!! He's proud, too.
As sick as he is, I think he's missing his girlfriend, Miss Witchie, a fluffy long-haired tuxedo tabby.Witchie had to be euthanized a few weeks before we noticed similar Bad Problems in our big black feral dude. He came to us in late fall (CATsnips first ever attempt at TNR -- it worked!)

Still, even now as his condition is deteriorating, he likes to take a typical hike across the roadway, and enjoys grumbling and crabbing at his cousins.I'm trying to make the next few days as pleasant as possible; his other three feline buddies are worried about him and stick pretty close to his side. They know we're worrying, so they're in on worrying, too. Our velvet Elvis sees more of his family now that he's sick than when he was healthy!
If his interest in life has dropped considerably by Friday afternoon we'll make the final trip to his vet.
This is hurting, but he gave us so much trust and affection that we now owe it to the cat goddess to make his final days the best possible. You've all been wonderful about insulin in cats, blood testing tricks, etc Without your help, I know he wouldn't be nearly this happy and comfortable.
Send good wishes our way, and think kind thoughts about the dearest, loving, most polite. friendly feline I've ever known.
When the time comes, he'll be sorely missed and there will be an empty hole in our lives.

Lots of love and hugs to you all...that just brings tears to my eyes. It sounds like your Velvet Elvis has had a wonderful life and is enjoying every moment while he can. please give him a hug and a "good boy" from me and Jack.

Dearest Rainey, and, of course, you too, most wonderful, Velvet Elvis,

Treasure each day... Each day is a gift.

Please know we're holding you, precious Velvet Elvis, and your entire family close in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers...

Much love and countless gentle hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever whispering in my heart...

My heart goes out to you. I know there are no words. I just lost Suzie a few weeks ago and it still hurts but I do believe that the hurt that I have now is worth all the joy and love I had with her for 9 years. The hurt only comes because we were blessed which the presence of such beautiful beings. Perhaps that wisdom will help you a little. If I could take the hurt away and make it easy for you I would. Keeping you in my prayers

I read your post with a growing lump in my throat. How strong you are. How strong velvet Elvis is. What a wonderful family life you all have.
I would cry now....but, no. I just want you to know how much your story and short stay with us here has affected me. I literally do have a lump in my throat.
Your Elvis sounds so much like my Tom.

And I cannot bear the thought.
Please know I am so very very sorry....and I am thinking of you.
