I haven't posted for a while because I was trying to give Zoey's new dosing scale some time to see how it works. This is my current dosing: less than 150 - 0; 150-220-1.2; 220-320-1.6; 320-420-1.8; 420+ 2u.
I like that she is staying pretty much in the blues and greens between shots, but I still can't get her preshot numbers consistent. Am I expecting too much? Is it more important that she stay low during the day? Should I try a different dosing scale?

Zoey is still doing well. She's happy, purring, easy to test and shoot. All around just a love, but I want to be doing what's best for her.

Thank you all so much for all your thoughtfulness and advice!

I think Zoey is doing well, Carol. She does seem to bounce from the greens midcycle. Unfortunately they bounce until they stop bouncing. I think her numbers during the cycle are excellent and definitely below the renal threshold (the level where we think the pancreas can heal, somewhere between 180-250). We had a kitty here once who bounced off and on for almost 2 years before he flattened out and went into remission. Most cats don't take nearly that long!

I would keep on doing what you are doing. Some day when you can, you might do a full curve - every 2 hours from preshot to preshot - to see when she starts down and when she starts back up. There might be some tweaking with food intake at those points that could help. But if she is happy and in those nice ranges most of the time, I'd continue on and hope her body decides those greens are okay.

That's kind of what I was thinking. It's been a journey to get her into some greens, and I'd like to see her stay there. It's the occasional blacks that scare me. But she seems to tolerate the 2 unit dose at those higher readings. She does have food available pretty much all of the time, except for a couple of hours before each preshot, so I don't worry too much about her going too low. I just needed reassurance. I guess there are several goals: to keep her happy and healthy, to get her into the blues and greens midcycle, and eventually to get her body to adjust and go into remission. So far two out of three! I'll keep plugging along!

This is such a great site. Thanks so much for helping all of us "sugarbaby" moms and dads!
