Is regular Wellness canned food acceptable as a low carb food? I can't tell from looking at the food guide if it is or how to compare calories to carbs. Fancy Feast and Friskies appear to be the golden standard for low carb food but I need a canned food for syringe feedings.

The grain-free Wellness pate is low-carb, and diabetes appropriate. Make sure you get the grain-free ones!
Instinct and Evo brands are also low-carb canned brands, and the texture of those is a tad softer (in case that would help)

Has anyone using Wellness pate noticed any changes in the food lately?
We've noticed a visual change and have found a few decent sized pieces of black plastic in several cans.

To Cat Ma: Yes the grain-free is low carb and we were able to get our cat off insulin with Wellness.

I haven't noticed anything, but I'll admit that all the pates kind of look the same to me some days...I'll keep my eyes open for plastic, though.

Is your cat off completely or in remission? What else do you feed your kitty besides Wellness?

Completely off insulin within a week. We have only fed him Wellness ever since. My advice would be to read this forum and catinfo.org thoroughly. I wish we did that instead of trusting the vet and "prescription" diets.

The issue is we have noticed a change in the food and are considering a switch, possibly to EVO.

Thanks MaryB.

Before we put out the food, we mix it with some filtered water (recommended by catinfo) and that's when we've found it.

I switched from Wellness to Evo in part because of the cost, we have 6 cats and Wellness is $3.29 a can here. My cats were vomitting an awful lot, so we switched . They love the Evo, even Goof, whom I could never get to eat wet food before. The vomitting is pretty rare now.

I posted in another thread, yes I have noticed a change to the 5.5oz cans of chicken, not the 3oz cans. The large black pieces I have seen are pieces of bell pepper. It has larger chunks of both carrots and peppers and I noticed carrots moved up farther in the list of ingredients on the label. It also smells different and has a different consistency.

Wasn't aware peppers could be black. Wonder if that's good for a cat to eat.

Batch changes on the production lines can be different enough to cause GI upsets in cats. We've had instances reported her for Friskies and Wellness in the last few years. Keep track of the batch and lot numbers if you're having problems with a particular brand.
