Hi. I have a cat, who has diabetes. There has been a cold going around with my cats, but the diabetic cat is taking it worse then others. She has lost weight, she is vomiting pink ish slosh, and lots of it, and she is lethargic. She also has not been eating or drinking, and making us hand feed her with a syringe. Her blood sugar is around 330. I am now worried she is in ketoacidosis. She has never had insulin, and has been doing good with just a diet. I am getting increasingly worried. The weird thing is she is responding to touch and purrs constantly while people are petting her. That is not common with ketoacidosis. Thank you, and comment asap if you have any suggestions

If your kitty has diabetes and is not getting insulin, is unwell and not eating and is lethargic, it is very likely she has ketones and possibly DKA . Are you able to test the urine for ketones with a bottle of Ketostix?
I would recommend you take her to a vet and have her checked. Something is making her nauseated and stopping her wanting to eat. If she has the cold the others have, she may need something for it. And if she has ketones and or DKA she will need immediate care.
Please do not just leave her and think she will get better on her own. She needs vet care immediately as she will only get worse.

I will be bringing her into the vet tomorrow to see what is wrong. They will do the ketone test, and hopefully it won't be that, but if it is, will she have to have longtime medication, or will it just be until she gets better. I might be able to pay for short term medication, but I can not currently pay for insulin full time.

Can you get her in to a vet today. If it is ketones, they cant wait

It is currently 10:52 PM where I am, and the emergency vet in my area is closed for renovations. Nothing is open.
OK.
What I would do then is try and get as much food into her as possible (without her vomiting) small amounts often. Food helps keep ketones away
Water the food down so you can syringe it. Fluids help flush out ketones.
At this point if she will eat any food I would let her. Don't worry if it is not low carb.
What is her BG normally?
Try and get her to the as early as possible in the morning

Here is the information
DCIN has 2 programs to help. One is for anybody who's struggling with the upfront costs of treatment and the other is dependent on income and we will continue supplying insulin as long as it's needed.

Here's the link to our Help for Individuals which includes the info on the 2 programs and links to apply.

We also have a page on Facebook that you can contact too but I'd suggest getting the application done ASAP....it can take about 2 weeks to get you into the system and get supplies sent out and with summer coming up, there will be times that we won't be able to ship due to the heat.

Feel free to send me a private message if there's anything I can help you with. Just click on my name and choose "Start a conversation"

Thank you so much. I will look into this and sign up for it. I will give her whatever she will eat, and will update, when I know what happened.

Hello. I got her fed as much as possible, and stayed up with her to make sure she safely made it through the night. She is currently in with a vet, however he is a holistic vet, so if it is ketoacidosis, I am not sure what he will do. We normally go to another vet.

They said that sense it is so far along, unless we wanted to pay 5000 for a treatment that may work, we have to put her down as the best option for her. We have decided to do that.
