Took a quick trip to the V-E-T today so Bixie could get a CBC/Chem check after being on Leukeran for about a month now. The good news is he seems to be doing better since I started switching the kitties over to Duck (Royal Canin) and off of Wellness Chicken. The Wellness I think bought him about a year really, since he did a lot better on that than on anything else, and it kept us from having to raise his steroid dose any further til recently. But I guess it's run it's course, and the barfing level seems lower with duck now in the mix (we're at about the half-way point in switching).

He's still on the subdued side, but looks brighter to me overall, and it's nice not to hear that middle-of-the-night barfola every night. So far I don't see a difference in his BGs either, which is really nice. I don't know the carbs on the duck, but I don't think there's grain in it, just duck & green peas & whatever else they sprinkle in, so hopefully it's on the low side.

Also on the plus side, my civie with IBD (who has done well over the years with periodic food changes and thankfully has not yet had to go on meds for it) was due for a food change herself, and seems to be improved as well on the duck. Barfing levels are near all-time lows in fact this past week, which is a relief for me ... & the carpet.

Down sides are that Bixie lost some weight, down to 10.9 lbs from 12 in August. I can feel it when I pet him, he has that older cat feeling lower down on his back, a little bony. But hopefully on the duck now, his weight will improve. Other downside is that duck is vewy ecksPENsif! But I figure it's probably cheaper than adding new meds to the mix for Bix & civie Pippa, and hopefully will keep the vet visits & tests & stuff cheaper too for the time being.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! We are on STORMWATCH, lol. So far cold (ok, below 60.... brrrr!), grey (ewwww), and some showers. Sun peeked out a couple times though, YAY!!!

So glad to hear Bix and civie are doing ok. It sounds like your handling the changes purrfectly.

Stay safe from the storm.

We sure do miss you around here.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. :-D

Nancy, Leuk is chemo, Chlorambucil (?), but a pretty mild one I guess. You give it from home (pill), and it doesn't require bloodtests beforehand each time, etc. It's supposed to slow the disease progression I guess (not be curative). The duck is $1.91 for a 5.9oz can. Guess I should shop around and see if I can find it for less.

Judy, kudos on posting a video, I'm impressed! I don't even take videos, LOL, let alone post them! She acts like my cats do if some food is stuck in a tooth. I know you've had her examined extensively though and her teeth are fine. Did they rule out some sort of infection up underneath a tooth or up in the bones & stuff up there? Is it mostly on the one side that she does that? Gosh I hope her meds are helping, that just looks so frustrating to experience or to watch.

Thanks for the kudos, Joanna. I am pleased with my progress in the computer stuff---tho most of the time I feel like a moron and a dinosaur. My 4 year old grandson often has to show me things! Anyhow, After you recommended I see a specialist, I did. He extracted 2 teeth and did a full work up, xrays of her skull and all ($1500). Other than the bad teeth, he found nothing else wrong in her mouth or jaw etc. He suggested and endoscopy, because he said often cats demonstrate mouth pain when it is really their stomach. And if that showed nothing , he recommended a CAT scan. I was not willing to pursue either of those. And then I found the info about Feline Orofacial Pain Syndrome with the exact description of her symptoms. It is often associated with dental problems. They think is is an inflammation of the trigeminal nerve and recommend using anti-epileptic meds. Thus we have her on phenobarbital, which has helped quite a lot, although she still has the symptoms, but not nearly as much and she is able to eat.

hope you are well and Bix continues to not barf!
