Any advise on getting a new vet in the NJ area..

I am looking for a vet who is good with diabetic cats - i live in the North Bergen Area...
Im near Jersey City - fairview - union city - west new york - fort lee - cliffside - all those areas around ..

My cat needs prescription for insulin asap

Thanks =)

you all are awesome and helped me in a great way

Good for you!

Going in to a new Vet be sure to show that confidence. It will reassure the Vet you are going to take a proactive part in your cats health and well being. Many Vets have customers that depend on them for every little aspect and expect THEM, to make all the decisions. You, by showing you are not afraid of the situation and are going to be THE advocate for your kitty, will make it a MUCH better climate for ALL involved.

Good luck and remember you are now a member of this GREAT family and have a wealth of information at your disposal.

WELCOME to the FDMB.

While you are waiting for recommendations (I don't have any for this area). Go online and do a search for vets in these areas, then pick up the phone and start calling.

That's what I did to find a new vet. I went through several before I found one that would support home testing, didn't require vet stay, etc.

Ask the questions and you will know by talking with the receptionist and possibly even the vet in the office, whether this is a place to try. And remember you are the paying customer, if you don't like what they have to say or their approach, hang up and move to the next one on the list.

It's the same when you get there, if they won't answer your questions or be supportive when in the office, then end the visit and go elsewhere.

While yes, you need insulin, by changing the food, you may have a bit of time to play with.

Hope this helps.

Please try Dr. Jose Pla at Cats Exclusive in Ridgefield, NJ. They are a little pricey, but he is excellent and very knowledgeable about Feline Diabetes. He agrees with home testing and they will teach you how to do it. They also do not try to sell you the food. As a matter of fact, he is the one who recommended Fancy Feast.
