Re: Way overdue

That is beautiful, Carl, thanks for sharing. Don't think I'll share it with Doug, though. Every time I show him one of your pictures he asks if y'all have any job openings!

Re: Way overdue

It must be a glitch in my work computer....I can see it on my phone, but not on the screen! Work...firewalls.....who knows?!

Most of my pics are uploaded directly from my phone. That one is on my photobucket page. Work probably has a filter to block photobucket...

Libby,
Please don't tell Doug but they just filled my old job and it came with a house!

Yeah, probably best to keep that one to myself. ;-)

Re: Way overdue

Um, WANT! Why can't I have a backyard like that, waves crashing...sea birds calling? Instead I have the soothing sounds of reverberating wheels on I-64.

I get highway I-40 AND trains. I hear a lot of mournful honks and horns late at night/early morning.

Got this pic sent to me today. Never seen one of these myself, but have seen the tracks on the beach twice. This photo was taken on the next island north of here, less than 1/2 mile away, called Harbor Island.
The turtles we usually get here are Loggerheads. This is the biggest sea turtle species, the Leatherback. Last two years, we have had one nest on Hunting Island, but only two hatchlings emerged in total. They don't normally nest in this area. This past Monday, two or three really lucky people were walking the beach at sunrise on Harbor Island, and they got this picture. I'm glad that they got another person in the shot, for scale, because you can't appreciate the size of the beast without something in the photo to compare against. I don't know anyone who has actually seen one this up close and personal. Normally all you get to see is the track in the sand as they come and go during the wee hours of the morning.

Check out her tracks. Looks like a dune buggy was all over the beach! The tracks I have seen here were as wide as an ATV is long, so 5 feet or so. The small object in the foreground is somebody's flipflops...

As I've told you before, Jessica LOVES turtles, especially sea turtles, so I had to show her your pictures. She said, "I want to ride him!"

LOL, there's probably room for the whole family to ride!

I have lots of turtle pics that I can share with Jessica too.

This one is my all time favorite...

He's only hours old, making his first trip to the ocean.
Hope she likes it!

Tell her "yes, but they don't start hatching until Mid-July!"

Carl

I read her your post and she said, "Can we GO?!"

I tried several times during our homeschooling years to find a way for her to get up-close to a sea turtle. Taking her to the aquarium when we got Nimbus was the closest she ever got. She would be thrilled if she could actually get to touch one! Of course, she may burst before July!!

Libby,
Check with NC state parks. I'm sure they have some sort of "turtle watch" programs like the coastal parks here do. Lori was a Park Ranger in NC.... maybe PM her? Not sure which coast you live closer to given the shape of the Carolina's coast. We have parks on the ocean at Myrtle Beach, Huntington Beach, Edisto and Hunting Island. The outer banks must be loaded with them too.

Carl

Carl,

Love the pics!!! Ocracoke has some great turtle watch programs, as the rest of outerbanks! We are going to outbanks in 4wks. Can't wait!

What a great BIG backyard. God's playground!!! Keep pics coming!!!!
