Hi Everyone,

Looking for some feedback, do any of you have a pet water fountain for your kitties? Ours currently drink from a metal bowl that keeps the water quite cold and I change it 2-3 a day, but I am thinking if I got a fountain our diabetic kitty may drink more water.

I have tried a variety of fountains, and this is my favorite: https://tinyurl.com/k8vz2qm. It's expensive, but it's a lot easier to clean than others I've had, and my diabetic cat actually drinks out of it. He likes the elevated part in the center--that seems to be what's making the difference.

I've only tried two, one of which was given to us for free and didn't work properly. I can't remember the brand, but it was horrible. About three months ago, after reading a bunch of reviews, we bought a Catit Flower Fountain (https://smile.amazon.com/Catit-43742-Flower-Fountain/dp/B0146QXOB0/) off of amazon. It's pretty reasonable and the replacement filters, which only have to be replaced once a month (and that's with three cats) are just as reasonable. Bear, my diabetic, fell in love with it instantly, but I wasn't worried about him because he has always preferred moving water sources. His brothers, Ninja and Tails, took to it with ease. I left the flower part off until they got used to it and eventually put it in because Bear prefers the streams it offers. We truly love it. It's easy to clean and, most importantly, it's nearly silent. Actually, we have it in our bedroom because Bear spends most of his time there and we can't even hear it at night. I believe they make one in stainless steel as well, but Tails is allergic to stainless steel, so I opted for the original. Like I said, we love it and it's been a game changer with getting Bear to drink more water. :)

I bought the one at Walmart and the filters were pretty cheap. The cats seem to like it and will drink more from it then the bowls.

I've tried several. Were a multi cat household, and they get acne breakouts if I use anything except stainless steel.
I got 2 - same ones as Bronx's dad posted above. I liked that one the best. Some cats drank out of the top where the fountain is, others drank from the well part.
When we moved I never set them back up. They're likely in a box stored with my craft stuff I haven't had reason to dig out yet... (2 years later).
I haven't seen any difference in water consumption with or without the fountains... But turn the sink on and they're right there.

I have the Pioneer one mentioned by Bronx Dad. I used to have a drinkwell, and it was miserable to clean and it was plastic. The pioneer is a breeze to clean and comes in stainless as well as black or white porcelain.

When I bought the CatIt flowerpot fountain last summer, my kitty fell in love instantly. He has had other fountains but this one is his clear favorite. It's also the human favorite due to the super simple design and ease of cleaning. Other fountains we've had at our house over the years were too noisy, too expensive to replace the filters or the pump just quit on us. I'd highly recommend this one.

I have a Drinkwell Platinum. It's 8 years old and still running strong. It's a pain in the butt to clean but there's a cleaning kit for it. I buy the filters online so they're pretty cheap and last a while. My civvie will play in it if I keep it on the floor so I keep it on a stand/small end table. I caught Chuck drinking out of the toilet one to many times and set it up again for him.

I've been checking out all the fountains mentioned. I've had a fish tank for many years and wondering if I can make my own fountain using those parts. Now, with the fish tank, I have a couple of problems that I'm sure would also apply to a fountain. First, I have a 20-gallon tank and the water evaporates so fast (Arizona) that I have to top it off every week. Secondly, the water here is very high in minerals and leaves calcium deposits that build up over time. What do you suggest?

I have very hard water here too. I suggest one with a filter option. I use vinegar to soak when there's buildup. I fill their tank once a week with our heat set on 69° in the winter.
The filters seem to reduce the buildup in my fountain. Another option would be to use a Britta or bottled water that's sold in gallon jugs or bigger. There's a water refill station at my local Walmart so one of the 5 gallon jugs is only a few dollars to fill.
