Hey folks,

Just wanted to flag that Weruva has started adding potato starch to some of their canned foods. I’ve been feeding it for years with great results but checked the labels after my cat inexplicably hit 500 tonight. Yep, potato starch is now present in at least Amazon Livin and Paw Lickin Chicken.

I sent a disappointed email to the company asking to confirm whether they’re making this change across the board, but of course I doubt it’ll do much. Hope no one else got a nasty surprise or that this post prevents a few. Quite rich to advertise your food as grain free while adding starch like they aren’t functionally the same.

I think you will probably hear from them. I wrote to them a few years ago about one of their canned foods and I heard back quite quickly.

Thank you for making this post! Weruva is the only wet food I can get my recently diagnosed kitty to eat, and I have both Amazon Livin and Paw Lickin Chicken. I did notice that his numbers were a little higher when feeding him those. I just checked the other flavor I have - Chicken Frick a Zee - and this one doesn't have potato starch added.

I will definitely be headed to PetCo sometime this week to exchange the ones with potato starch and just all Chicken Frick a Zee. Once they reply back, I would love to know if this is a change they are making across the board or in just a few flavors.

Do we know if the food chart gets updated when things like this happen? Some foods on there are now discontinued or called something else. It must be an absolute headache keeping up with it. I'd also like an update here if they get back to you! Thank you so much for the heads up!

If you're talking about Dr. Pierson's chart (catinfo.org), I think it hasn't been updated in years. The date in the PDF says 2017 but the webpage title says December 2018 so who really knows.
