Soooo I just finished chatting with customer service at Walmart because I've been trying to obtain As-fed values for their other cat food brand :bookworm:. They have Special Kitty and Pure Balance. Unfortunately, it was a dead end :(. Was wondering if anyone else has tried finding the nutritional information for the canned foods and had success? Otherwise I only have the GA calculation to go on. Thanks in advance!

They came out with another store brand a few years ago but seeing it more now. Pure Balance. It's distributed by Walmart but another company actually makes the food.

Thanks Lucy. I'm still digging to see which company actually manufacture's the food :)

Back when the recall was on in 2007 it was Menu Foods that was producing the Special Kitty. Many brands of generic and even name brand pet food are produced by private plants. At that time Menu Foods was producing Iams as one of their lines. Since then Iams opened their own plant. If I remember correctly Menu Foods ended up in deep financial trouble so no doubt many pet foods are made at other private plants.

ETA This is a list of some of the kitty foods that were produced at Menu Foods at that time:

Thanks Mary Ann! Doesn't look like they make Pure Balance but I'm finding more leeds pointing to a company called Ainsworth :bookworm:. They also make Rachel Ray's Nutrish sold at Walmart.

That information was companies they were producing for in 2007. If Menu Foods is still in business, many of the companies have gone to either their own plant or other private plants. But because of the costs of having their own processing plant, many of the smaller companies use private plants. This information is considered proprietary...the only reason the information came out about Menu Foods was because of the extent of the recall.

ETA It looks like Simmons Pet Foods bought out Menu Foods on 2010. Who they produce for is anyone's guess.

I haven't found my prior info yet, but I'm pretty sure Mars owns the company that makes Special Kitty. If I recall correctly, that's how I tracked them down.

If it is Mars I believe they have their own plants for producing both wet and dry pet foods.

Kind of making me more suspicious to even want the information if they make the company who manufacture's it so difficult to find . Ainsworth looked to be the most promising but I have found mention of Simmons and Doane (Ol' Roy)

I kept a copy of the Special Kitty numbers on my google drive. If someone can tell me how to add it here, I will do it.

I can't find the info that I compiled a couple of years ago, but I did track down the name of the company I contacted. It's Simmons. Menu foods sold out to Simmons around 2010, I believe. As far as I know, Simmons still manufactures Special Kitty. Sorry, don't know about Pure Balance.

ETA: Lol, looks like Mary Ann beat me to it! :p:):)

No worries, Lucy! Was just a thought since Maury was being pickier lately and they didn't have his Fancy Feast flavours out. That store is re-arranging things . I can open the doc too, Sandi :)

J M Smucker makes the Special kitty Canned food they also make the Ever Pet canned food sold at Dollar General as well as another brand of canned cat food that i cant remember off the top of my head, its all the same ingredients but just labeled for 3 different stores .. when i contacted them back in May this is what i was sent ( it isnt copy and pasting in the formatted way its written in the email i received) i asked for the percents "as fed" so i am guessing the its the total amount in the 5.5 oz can .. as you can tell they are not very high in protein.

Thank you for contacting The J.M. Smucker Company regarding Special Kitty® products. We always enjoy hearing from pet parents like you and are pleased to know your pet enjoys our products.
