Vomiting..something VERY new to Lily

Woke up this morning and stepped into a big pile of vomit from my Lily. It looks like most of the food she ate last night (12 hours ago!) She won't eat her breakfast so I did not give her insulin. She is drinking more, but she just might be dehydrated from vomiting.

Any thoughts? I am not sure what to do. Haven't tested her, no supplies yet, that was something I had planned to get today. Her breath is fine but she is very sleepy. HELP!
 
Terri, she wouldn't eat anything at all. I call the vet and brought her in. Her blood was at 312 which wasn't horrible compared to the 500 that she was when diagnosed. They are watching her today and monitoring her levels. They will give her something for the nausea and will try to get her to eat something. I have to pick her up before they close at 5 pm, but need to bring her back on Monday morning. I saw a different vet (same office), and he was so much better with her and me. He will be calling me tomorrow to check her status thoughout the day. She had also lost more weight since Monday. :cry:

Two things that come to mind are ketones, and pancreatitis. I would have them check her for these things, I know they may not be able to do it today, but that would be great if they could. Please ask them about that. If you get her home and she still will not eat you might have to take her to the ER vet.
You can check for ketones at home if you can catch her peeing. You can get the strips to check for ketones at the pharmacy but I think you much be able get a good clean urine sample.

Both anti-nausea and appetite stimulant may be needed to help her eat.

As a note: some vets have you give half the insulin dose when fasting a cat pre-procedure if the glucose is high enough. Discuss with the good vet.
 
She was admitted to the hospital yesterday, but she is home today, back to the hospital tomorrow. She did eat some food this morning on her own, so I gave her her insulin. She apparently nibbled on some food I left out for her last night too. The vet tested her ketones, and she was fine. He gave me meds for nausea and an appetite stimulator, so I guess he knows what he is doing. I feel so much better now that he has taken over her care. He will be calling me today to check on her. Fingers crossed.

If she was negative for ketones she could have a slight case of pancreatitis. I would discuss this with the vet if her appetite is still a bit off.

Terri, she goes back to the hospital for another 'curve' tomorrow. I will mention it to him. She is just picking at her food today, but I think she ate enough to give her her insulin tonight. Had to put some people tuna out to get her to eat some of it. She also nibbled at her regular food too.
 
Have we mentioned that you can do the curve at home, where vet stress elevations of 100 to 180 mg/dL can happen?
