Does anyone know of anywhere that can help in a hurry during an emergency? This has been a really bad week for me, money is extremely tight, I was barely able to pay my rent due to some unexpected expenses, some major vet bills with my bird, and a major unexpected change in my income. Of course this would be when Dax gets sick :( He started vomiting yesterday, I watched him for the day, I thought it was just because he wolfs his food down so fast. I tried feeding him slowly so he couldn't just inhale his food an he didn't vomit all afternoon or evening, but I woke up to vomit all over the bed again :? The oddest thing that makes no sense to me either is his BG. I checked him this morning to make sure he wasn't getting hypo with the vomiting - His BG is well within a safe range at 108, but that is higher then I ever got during the OTJ trial with him, so now I am worried about pancreatitis. I know I need to take him in and have the vet check him out and run some blood work but I don't have the money to pay for it and don't know what to do! All my backup as been used up with all the other unexpected bills and the initial vet bills from taking in Max and Dax, I'm waiting for my vet to call me back right now and see what she suggests or if they can work out a payment plan for me.....Here is a link to his spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...OXI0WWZSLW9famtuZVdjMnpLWWc&usp=sharing#gid=0

Lydia,

At the very top of this page(Feline Health) there is a topic called Financial Resources. Click on that and maybe you can find some help in there. I would think Dax maybe could have pancreatitis from what it sounds.
My cat Lilly had it twice, once before she became diabetic. The BG level would not indicate whether or not he had it as that really does not influence pancreatitis.
You know he probably does not have ketones if his BG is low so I would most likely say pancreatitis.

He might just be having one of those days, it happens, I wouldn't be so quick to rush to the vet just yet. Feed him less so his tummy isn't overwhelmed. Dusty can eat half a can without throwing up but my non-diabetic cat Beni will throw up if he eats too much too fast so I give him 1/4 of a can and then about 15 min later the other 1/4 can and he keeps it down. His BG is probably just higher from throwing up and being a little stressed. I say give him a little cat grass and just feed him a little less while keeping an eye on him. If it goes on longer than a couple of days then a vet visit is called for. :-|

Thanks, I feel a bit better about just continuing to watch him, his brother is doing excellent, however he's still very skinny, so this isn't helping LOL I'm going to try some acidophilus and feeding very small frequent meals, maybe I'll boil so me chicken and try just small amounts of chicken today and see how things go, in the mean time I'll contact some of those groups and see if any of them can help me to pay for the vet bill if the vomiting continues.

You can try 1/4 if a 10 mg tablet of Pepcid about 20 minutes prior to feeding. One of mine takes that in a pill pocket but you can also dissolve in a bit of water and use a syringe to shoot in his mouth. Might help if it's just an upset tummy issue.

No issues since I posted this. I think the issue is him eating to fast or to much at a time, and his stomach couldn't handle it. I've been feeding him very small controlled amounts every 4 hrs or so during the day and using a big dog bowl so he has to slow down and can't just gulp it down, and that seems to have solved the problem. Glad it was that easy!

Hairballs aren't generally a concern with the Rex breeds, as unlike most cats, they don't shed much. They can get hairballs, but it's not common. I'm just glad this was an easy fix this time! Also have managed to transition from Wellness to Solo dehydrated raw that I rehydrate before feeding, or Bravo raw. I still give Wellness on occasion for variety, but I figured it out cost wise and feeding either rehydrated or premade raw is actually cheaper then buying canned food! And I believe it to be healthier - Both cats look SOOOO much better then they did when I brought them home!
