Vomiting and insulin?

I failed blood testing this morning as Jasper wouldn't sit still and my other cat kept trying to get in way looking for food. Will try later. Learning curve. :)
So I fed Jasper. He ate some, then went and started drinking lots of water. I knew it wasn't good because soon after he threw up. I didn't want to give the insulin without food. Waited a few and gave more food. He ate some so gave him 2 units vs 2.5 of insulin. Not sure if that was a good idea. What do you do in a situation like that? Should I try to BG in about 4 hours?
Trying to read up on everything. So much to take in .

It IS a lot to digest at first but you'll be surprised how quickly one catches on. I think your choice was fine on the dosing. But lets see what the experts have to say.;):coffee:
 
It’s hard to give dose advice without the BG levels and basing it only on behavior can get you in trouble I’ve learned. I’m not sure how novolin works, doesn’t it need food onboard because it acts fast? @JanetNJ any thoughts? Who are the novolin pros here?

Novolin is a harsh fast acting insulin and not suitable for cats. If I were you I would ask my vet to swap it to a suitable insulin for cats such as Lantus or Prozinc.

As your kitty is newly diagnosed I think 2 units or 2.5 units is too much Novolin. He should have started on 1 unit and increased in 1/4 unit increments to be safe.
Are you feeding and waiting 1 hour before giving the insulin. Because Novolin is fast acting, there needs to be digested food in the tummy so that the cat doesn’t drop too low once the insulin starts to work.

Definitely test the BG again in 2 and 4 hours to see it hasn’t dropped too low.
Do you have honey and some high carb food in case of low numbers?

I was told to give right after feeding. I'm going to wait a little tonight before giving. They actually wanted me to up to 3 units as his levels kept getting higher, but I didn't. He jumped way up tonight PMGS.
I have honey and dry food. Will get some meaty carbs just in case. I will ask Vet about switching tomorrow.

Nope, only applies for Prozinc/Lantus. Like Bron said it hits hard and fast. Test, feed, wait 1 hour, shoot. Good job not upping to 3 units. If you can get a test at +1, and give a snack then too.
If he is dropping quickly you'll want to give him higher-carb wet food, dry takes too long to hit the system.

I've been giving them meat for both feedings lately, but small amount of dry for grazing late night as thats what he's used to now. I did a +1. Went down a little. If I'm up at 11, I'll try another. I'm happy that I'm getting good blood for the sample, though he moves fast and I have to hold tight to get it. Sometimes he gets away too quick and I barely get any and have to redo.
You've all been wonderful with your help. Greatly appreciate it. I've had numerous cats and never had to deal with this.

Did someone already mention to get the droplet on your nail and then test from there? It works best with kitties that move fast so it’s off the ear
