I would like to start giving Red vitamin B 12 supplements but I'm not sure where to start. I know I want the methylcobalamine b 12 but in liquid? Pill form? Amount per day?

Thanks!

Hannah gets 3mg of Methylcobalamin per day. I buy Zobaline online from LifeLink and the tablets are easy to crush, sprinkle, and mix with her food. This product is specifically for kitties and has no added sugar. They're about $26 for 60 tablets, plush shipping. Here's the link to their website. The tablets are tasteless and she doesn't even know she's getting something healthy added to her evening meal. LOL, if she ever suspected, she likely wouldn't eat it... the little fusspot! :cat:

I gave zobaline but it wasn't enough for my poor Rudy- he's 16 and wasn't able to climb stairs anymore. I got B12 that I could inject from my vet- about $12/bottle for 10ml. he get's 1/2ml injected (just like insulin) twice a week and he is doing much better now! so one bottle lasts me 10 weeks (about 2 months) for only $12 plus the cost of needles- which I have plenty of ;-)

Oh thank you for that! I am sorry for Rudy! It breaks my heart to see my own like that too! I know it hurts.
I would love to get some injectable for mine. I hope my vet will be agreeable, because the price is certainly right.
Thanks again, Karen.

Ahh so much awesome info. Thanks guys!! I'm in Canada so it's $15.00 shipping for the zobaline from lifelink. Seems like shots would be the cheaper way to go. I'll have to speak to my vet about it.

Thanks again!

My kitty had been eating them with her treats in the morning. I got some soft treats, press the tablet into one and she eats it with no fuss.
What kind of treats do you get? I found Friskies Oh No hairball treats and used them as pill pockets. They were so much more successful than pill pockets. But I can't find them any longer. I have a couple of expired bags that I still use but if I can't find more, I need another one that works.

I got them from Petco. They're Purina whisker lickins and she can't get enough of the chicken flavor. She now even see the tablet itself as a treat so if the treat and tablet falls apart she gobbles it right up. Good luck, though I'm sure any soft treat should do the trick. And i have seen some wonderful but slow improvement in het legs.

Glad to hear you have seen some improvement in your cat's legs. Hope I see some soon in mine. It is always good to have as backup plan for giving pills since pill pockets are not that great for my cats. I have a cat with frequent bladder infections so he takes pills but the hairball treats always work when pill pockets were iffy most of the time. Wish I could find the friskies hairball treats again but it is good to know about whisker lickins. Thanks!

I'm so excited I just had to let you know that after about a month taking the zobaline, Juliet climbed her way into the bathtub this morning! Even if the zobaline doesn't get us back to 100% it has made a huge difference in her comfort and agility too move which she really hasn't since she nearly collapsed on August 5th. I also showed the bottle to my new veterinarian Saturday as she had not heard of it and she mentioned that t may also be working s an anti-inflammatory for her arthritis. So don't give up hope! I hope that you will see improvement in your kitty soon as well.:bighug:

Wow!!!!! That is great news! I hope to see some improvements soon too. I have rugs laying around everywhere to keep him from slipping and I have several steps and one story condos to help him with jumping. Yesterday I saw him on a sofa that had no steps or condo to help him get up there.. I assume he got up there okay. Again, I am glad o hear your good news. I will post when my baby has some improvement too.

Karen and Rudy, what is the name of the injectable B12 methylcobalamin you bought? Darkside is 16 lbs. Would the dosage 1/ 2ml 2x a week be sufficient for his weight? Thank you.

I also used those friskies hairball treats and have been very upset that they have been discontinued

Hi, what is the name brand of the injectable B12? Does it have methylcobalamin? What dosage for a 16 pounder with moderate to severe diabetic neuropathy?

I love the ZOBALINE from LifeLink! It mixes up like a dream and everyone here is correct, kitty has no clue it is in the food!
I am super excited every time I mix it in..I am hoping for awesome results like THIS
awesome video--very informative !
is this something to do for prevention?
My guy has some knee issues is on adequan and I do not think has neuropathy but he is heavy an diabetic -hopefully will go in remission but maybe I should get him on this as prevention??

@Darkside's Grandma as far as I am aware methyl B12 does not come in an injectable form. I suspect that she's giving cyanocobalamin which generally isn't as effective for neuropathy as the methyl. Zobaline is by far the best product available for diabetic neuropathy and it seems to be tasteless when crushed on food so there's no need to pill the kitty.

@jayla I wouldn't use it as a preventative measure it is very high dose which works fabulously for the neuropathy with most cases caught early and getting good control of the BG healing completely in a few months. However, excess B12 in recent research has been linked to causing any already present cancer cells to multiply rapidly (it used to be thought that any excess B12 was just peed out) so unless it's medically necessary I wouldn't give it.

WOW--thank you…. I will just have it if needed but won't use otherwise….thank you so much!

Thank you Vyktors Mum.

It is the 3rd day starting out with 1 pill a day. My vet decided to go to 2 pills, 12 hours apart. She wanted to make sure his tummy could handle it.

His front paws are now noticeably different too when he walks. I hope I caught it in time and the Zobaline works.

@Darkside's Grandma - getting the BG levels under control is also an important part of the equation if the sugar is still too high and still causing damage you aren't likely to be as successful. Are you home testing? We have a fabulous spreadsheet that you can record the results in for us to check out and also for your vet, it's in the tech forum.

I wish you the best of luck fixing Darkside. My mum's kitty got neuropathy quite badly but his diabetes remained undiagnosed for some time - the vet thought it was an FCE that was causing his problems. We started with a different brand of methyl B 12 but weren't seeing any improvement after a couple of months so swapped to the Zobaline. He took that for three months and got back to 100! I hope you have the same outcome for Darkside, he is a very handsome kitty :)

I'm glad your Mum's kitty fully recovered.
Darkside was down to 135 a month ago 2u AM and 1u PM, 85 three weeks ago 1u AM 1u PM, 80 two weeks ago 1u AM and taken off of Lantus on November 17 and was 120 at the vet on November 25th.
He's due back on December 9th. He was on Zobaline starting with 1 tablet a day for 3 days and now I increased it to 1 tablet twice a day. Oh, Darkside said thank you for the compliment.

Nice numbers, especially for being taken at the vet where they often have a stress spike :) I hope he holds his remission. If I were you I would still get a meter so you can test him at home once a month and make sure you catch it quickly if he falls out out remission. You will probably recover the cost of the meter from your first test taken at home rather than at the vets. Alternatively you could get diastix from the pharmacy and keep an eye on his glucose levels by testing his pee every few weeks.
