Vetsulin vial concerns

Hi. Cassie is a 13 yr old orange tiger, diagnosed in Nov. 2023, 3 units Vetsulin 2x day. This recent vial of Vetsulin was purchased in April. Wednesday I noticed more bubbles entering upon inserting the needle. Thursday the solution did not separate (remained blended). I was concerned but no one (Vet office, Merck) had any ideas but showed no concern. Last night's dose, the solution was partially separated. This morning blended again. Today, after filling syringe, I turned bottle upright and removed the needle. I heard a **sucking sound**. I was told I did not have to inject air into the vial. My worries are - has a vacuum been created in the vial? Is there a leak? Is the insulin safe to continue using on my cat? Thank you

The best suggestion I have is to get in touch with a local vet school and see if there's a veterinary pharmacist who can answer your question.

I'm really surprised that the manufacturer wasn't helpful. You might consider trying again and ask to speak to someone who is more familiar with the insulin.

I'm going through a similar situation where my previous vial was around 67 days old. The contents looked ok, however, I discovered that the Vetsulin lost most of its effectiveness. Now i'm dealing with a situation where it feels like I've started all over with Marvin's dosing- new vial, +2 units twice a day, and his numbers have gone from the 100s into the 400s. I wasn't testing his BG as frequently as I should have...and got complacent. This is a difficult lesson to learn, sigh.
