Hello all,

Tweek has lost a full pound since Thursday. CGM has been installed, and I have attempted 3-4 times to get BG level from Relion. Im not doing well with it. Lots of Er 1s. šŸ«  vet suggested 2uL of insulin and will monitor along with me while the CGM is placed. They will also let me know if anything happens to the sensor, but I figured I would too if it fails. I asked the tech if 2uL is a lot of insulin and she proceeded to tell me its on the low end. I don't know if i want to do that and thought of just going with 1 or 1.5 first and make the call, and keep an eye on him. The last thing I want is to put him into shock right away... they taught me to give the shot, I cried. I asked for prescriptions of the ProZinc and the Syringes so I can get them on chewy (much more affordable then this visit) and I will continue to practice with the glucometer. I still have no clue his level on my own. Its interesting to me that people that have gone to school for this is giving me different information then all the people here do from past experiences. The challenges you've gone through to get your babies where they should be. If 1 - 1.5uL is ideal why are vet's not suggesting this? Anyway, that's all for now.

The error 1 code on Relion means that you applied the blood to the test strip too early. Wait for the meter to tell you when it is ready for blood. The should be an icon that blinks on the screen. Refer to the Relion instruction booklet for what the icon looks like. When you see the icon blink on the screen, then apply the blood to the edge of the strip.

If you don't feel comfortable with 2 units, then just give 1 unit or even 0.5 units. Some vets will prescribe a dose based on weight or for some other reason. You control the syringe at home, not the vet. Dose 1 unit or less if you feel more comfortable with that and just tell the vet. The vet can't control what you do at home or how your cat will react to insulin.

Yeah its very much been a learning curve. Now i have Er 4s. (Not enough blood) ill get it. Just takes time.really was venting on that one. Thanks for the suggestion on the dose. I will make the judgements as I take his blood (and grt an accurate reading) the vet also said if i check it and its low, skip insulin dose. Its all about the calls right now until we figure him out
 
Few people are pros at testing from the start. A too big drop of blood is preferable over a too small drop IMO. Get that ear toasty warm and firmly press the lancet device against the ear. Hold the rice sock underneath so you have something to press the device against while still warming the ear. If the device has adjustable settings, try a higher setting.
