Vet Visit for Linus and not sure about the outcome.

Linus has been doing well up until yesterday, his BS numbers are much higher than usual, he has been consistent with readings in the 350-400 range pre shot in the am, now he has been reading in the lower 500's, we have increased his insulin but seems to have a lesser affect per .2 of insulin. I am wondering if this has to do with him putting a bit of much need weight on? He has went from a shot of 1UN for a 300-350 reading and getting down to a BS reading of 250 4 hours after his shot to a 2UN shot for a 500 + reading and only going down to 310. Tonight his BS was 320, gave him a 1UN and 4 hours out he is at a 459..... whats going on?

In a past post you mentioned needing to set up a spreadsheet so you can post BGs for Linus. That's the only way we can help you to help Linus. @Marje and Gracie is one of the techies on here who can assist with this. I encourage you to get one up ASAP.

It's hard to know what's going on from the info in your post. It seems that you're using a sliding scale for dosing but his PSs are still quite high (350 - 400). Your sliding scale doses are 1 u or 2 u, right? You say there's less effect per 0.2 u change in dose. Am I reading this correctly? If so, how you're dosing isn't clear to me from what you've written.

There are many possibilities for what's going on but we need to know more.

@Susan Jacobson

I’m happy to do the spreadsheet for you if you would like me to. It only takes a minute for me to do it and transfer it to you. Please send me a private message by clicking on “Marje and Gracie” to the left under Gracie’s photo and then “Start a conversation”.

Thank you!

I am hoping there is some sort of pattern in his spreadsheet that would stand out to me as the reason he loses weight, any ideas or suggestions?

Here's what I see since 11/17:
  1. You have a good relationship between the AM/PMPSs and the nadir - ie., the nadir number is almost always about 50% of the PS values.
  2. Overall, the dose needs to go up so the whole curve shifts down to give you a lower nadir and PSs that are high enough to shoot but maintain the same ratio to the nadir - ie., about double the nadir.
As for the weight issue, most unregulated diabetics can't keep weight on because they can't get enough energy from what they eat. Achieving regulation is the (not so easy) answer. Meanwhile, you could feed him more in small frequent meals.
