Hello, Baby was diagnosed with Diabetes 12/09 and has even went off the juice but is back on it now. We have always used the Relion Meter from Walmart but we have moved out of state and have a new vet who I absolutely love so far but he is pushing for us to use a vet glucometer. In my opininon - I don't feel that it is necessary but wanted to ask here for the pros / cons. I am always open to doing things better but feel like we are doing fine now.

I understand the test strips are VERY expensive and only Vet accessable. If your Relion worked in the past...I dont see why you cant compare the two and adjust accordingly. Wouldnt that work?
Best wishes,
jeanne

No need to use a vet glucometer unless you don't mind paying more to have numbers "just like the vet." Most everyone here uses human meters and we all speak in human meter numbers, so you'd have to take that into account if you switched to a vet meter, which reads slightly higher (~30% IIRC) than human meters. Hypo territory on a human meter is around 40 while on a pet meter, it's around 70. It's like converting between Celsius and Fahrenheit. Even Wikipedia uses human meter numbers in their Blood Sugar Guidelines for Feline Diabetes.

Thank you everyone; I value & appreciate your feedback. I also posted on Facebook in Lantus Land & got excellent feedback there too. I am staying with my meter & the vet is awesome & did not argue the decision.
