My cat was diagnosed a month ago and her Vestulin dosage is being adjusted. After the injection is give, how long does it take for the insulin to "work.". Thanks.

How long it takes to work depends on kitty, but approx 4-6 hours after the shot however anything up to 8 to reach nadir (lowest effect).

Do you home test? That's a great way to keep track of how long it's taking to work and the duration of it. It also keeps kitty safe from going hypo which can be very bad and even fatal.

If you do, it's useful to set up a spreadsheet to track your kitty's progress and to know if the dose is correct or not.

For most cats you start to see the bg start to drop 2 hours after injection, with the lowest point being 4-6 hours after injection. My cat is usually lowest at 5 hours after injection.

My cat is also on caninsulin/Vetsulin. I find her BGL drops quickly 1.5-2 hours. Then lowest point before 5 hours and starts to wear off around 10 hours.

I really recommend home testing as well.
How much are you giving?
Because it is a faster acting insulin I recommend feeding at least 20 mins before injecting.
My routine is wake- bgl test.#1
Feed
20-30 mins after inject based on #1. Most people give a set dose 2 x a day. If you home test you can adjust this a bit with practice and develop your own curve of how the insulin is working with your own cat.
