Well, we got most of breakfast down - took almost 4 hours and lots of toppings and crumbled treats, but he ate. Also lots of pawing at his mouth. :( But at least he got some calories in him! (Last night he wouldn't eat at all.) He ate about 1/2 cup, maybe a little less, of boiled chicken for lunch. For some reason it doesn't make him paw at his mouth as bad as the cat food does. I figure it's pretty lo-cal, though, so we'll probably try another 1/2 cup later in the afternoon. I don't think he's feeling up to snuff, in general; seems kind of logy today. Makes me wonder if he doesn't have a little bit of infection going on on the right side of his mouth. Thank heavens he sees the dentist Monday morning! I'm going insane worrying about him, terrified he'll lose any more weight, too.

I’m glad to hear he ate some, hope he eats his din din
Sending healing vines for his poor mouth, hope dental visit goes well, will keep you guys in my prayers:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Nice numbers today

Numbers do look good , Squallie but actions can speak louder than numbers :bighug: Sending prayers of comfort , that Monday comes quickly for both you and momma bean :bighug::bighug::bighug:

He won't touch his dinner. And that's after being given his appy pill, too. He has spent a lot of the day curled up next to a piece of equipment that puts out a lot of heat; now he's hiding in a cardboard box. I'm starting to worry that something dire is going on. This is what happened to my lovey Beezie, he stopped eating and the vet said he had kidney failure and we should put him to sleep. :(:(:( Like an idiot I did as she said, I have always regretted it, because I think he could have been helped. But anyway, now I'm terrified something like that is foing on with Squallie. They did bloodwork before his dental, would something like that show indications in the bloodwork? Or would it only show signs on a urinalysis?

:bighug:

Can you look in his mouth? Can you check his temp? I did in Gizmo a couple weeks ago and it wasn't a big deal (surprisingly).

Did you treat for nausea (jic)? Got any pain meds?

I hope it is nothing and Squallie is back to normal soon.

Hi Lucy - I am so sorry Squallie is feeling poorly. Bad kidneys definitely show up in blood work - in the BUN and creatinine and the electrolytes (ie potassium) and anemia. Was everything normal then?

Thanks, Lizzie. I haven't looked in his mouth because it's such a major fight and I didn't want to make the situation worse, but I think I'm going to try, now. I don't have a thermometer but his head and ears are very hot. :( He isn't acting like he has any nausea. I do have one dose of bupe left, thought I'd save it for tomorrow in case he's even worse then. But maybe I should give it tonight.

Hugs! Glad you are going to the dentist on Monday. Sounds like a toothache to me. Classic pawing at the mouth.

Whenever Bubba has gone off his feed due to a toothache and that's been twice in the last 3 year, I could almost always get him to eat baby food. Also try sprinkling a little oregano on top or flortiflora.

Also whenever Bubba stops eating he will usually always eat YA dry, even with a tooth ache. Go figure.

Thank you, Carol, that's what I thought. I didn't see his bloodwork from the dentist's, but I have to believe it was acceptable, or they wouldn't have gone ahead with the surgery.

Thanks, Bobbie. Squallie isn't a fan of baby food, go figure! I was just at the YA site today, thinking about ordering a bag to see if he'd eat it! He loves that stuff. I just hate to go down the dry food road with him, I may not be able to get him back on canned food if I do.

Oh no so sorry to hear that he's still not eating. I wish I had some advice but many vines your way, its great he already has the dental appointment, and hopefully an ER vet is accessible if need be tonight or tomorrow. I hope you feel better soon Squallie baby :( Remember to take time to breathe, he will be ok. :bighug:

Maybe taco wrap him?

Get a slurry of SEB ready before you check in case it looks inflamed you can drizzle it around with a syringe with no needle or eye dropper. SEB will help with the inflammation.

No advise on the pain meds - your call.

Yes, check for ketones. Good catch @Squeaky and KT (GA). @Squalliesmom not sure if you are using stiks or blood meter - if blood meter 2.4 is when you need to be concerned (just so you don't have to look it up). Do you have fluids? Maybe a infusion?

I am off to bed.

Thanks, Amanda! It's hard to remember to breathe when your baby isn't doing well, so thanks for the reminder!

Thanks, Lizzie. I do have SEB, I'll have it standing ready if I can get a look in his mouth. Sadly, I don't have a blood meter, just the urine sticks, or any fluids - fluids always seem to perk him up.

Bless your heart, Lucy :bighug: You really don’t need this now ❤️ I am sure Squallie’s bloodwork was good or they would not have done the procedure . His pawing at his mouth says oral pain or possibly infection to me not kidneys. Praying for you to have peace in your heart and not let worry torment you . Prayers for sweet Squallie , that whatever this is it’s no big deal and easily solved . Sending healing prayers to him, arms of peace to surround you :bighug:❤️:bighug:❤️:bighug:❤️

And , do you have ER vet near by? Please don’t sit up all night worrying when you could take Squallie and get him looked at tonight :bighug::bighug::bighug: To give you extra peace of mind . Hate you and Squallie are having to go thru this but I know ALL will be WELL ❤️

Thanks, Beth. :bighug:❤️ :bighug:
I'm a little paranoid about the whole kidney thing because I lost a beloved cat to it, and it's a long story, butt the short of it is, I think the vet was wrong and he could have been treated. Anyway, it happened not too long after he had surgery, and the vet said that was part of why they got bad so fast? I don't know why I believe/ed anything she said, but it just scares me to death. I DO have a 24 hr vet not too far away, also the clinic the dentist works out of has 24 hr emergency service so that is an option.

"...I know ALL will be WELL ❤️"
I really appreciate your reassurance! :bighug:❤️ :bighug:

Lucy, I hope Squallie showing signs of feeling better during the night (and it’s dawn as I write), and ketones ok too.
How is he now? And you?❤️

Sorry your going through all this, I hope he’s gets to feeling better very soon and you get some rest, sending lots of healing vines your way and keeping you guys in my prayers:bighug::bighug:

Good morning Lucy and Squallie. Checking his temp is not as dramatic or painful as you might think. Then you'll have more info for yourself and for the vet on Monday. Silly Elmo seemed to enjoy it but that's another story.
Squallie is not Beezie and if you made a mistake you now have the knowledge you didn't have before. Squallie may be getting older but he gets more than love from you. Be good to both of yourselves today, get some sleep tonight and tomorrow will be a new day, lots of sun, no rain.
Squallie, be a good boy today and eat something for momma, you know she loves you. We all love you. Tomorrow you'll come home with a good story, eat a whole can of your favorite food and after your nap you can tell us how your day went.
From Noah and the boys... :bighug: (but you won't need it).
And for Lucy who does need it.. :coffee: :bighug: :bighug:, then :coffee: and :)

You could just crush a little bit of it and sprinkle it on top his canned. That is what I did to get Bubba off the dry and eating wet. Now, I only use it to top his food with supplements in it that he detects and won't eat; either the YA or Flortiflora. And occasionally I give him 1 tbsp. of it at 2 AM so I don't have to handle raw food in the middle of the night.

Any thing to get them to eat.

You might want to revisit the baby food if you haven't lately. He might go for it this time.

hugs :bighug:

Sorry -- I haven't been following Squallie all that closely.

When was the dental? Were there extractions or a specific problem? Did the vet do post-procedure x-rays? If there was a piece of a root left, there is a good chance of an infection. (Although, if there were an infection, I would expect that you'd see a change in Squallie's numbers.)

Personally, given how worried you sound, I'd see about getting Squallie into the vet as soon as you can especially if not eating keeps up.

Sending lots of vines for Deputy Squallie to feel better. I'm glad you have an appt. with the dentist tomorrow. It could well be that a tooth fragment got embedded in Squallie's gums and is causing the pain. I hope you can get him to eat some babyfood or similar easy-to-eat food today.

Stay strong, Deputy Squallie!

:bighug::bighug::bighug:s and scritches

Maybe you can just give a drop of the bupre so you have some for later until you can see vet. It does sound like something with the teeth since he's pawing at them.

Looking in to see if there are any updates on Lucy and Squallie. I sure hope the night went better and sweet Squallie ate and rested. Lucy I am hoping and wishing for the best, sending lots of hugs.:bighug::bighug:

I hope Squallie is feeling better today. Leo has been having good appetite - so here are some appetite vines for sweet Squallie.

Thanks, Bobbie! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Yeah, I'm afraid I'm giving in and ordering a bag of YA. I know he loves the stuff so hoping he will eat it. Little stinker knows how to skim the toppings off the surface and leave most of the food behind, lol. We tried the baby food a couple of nights ago and it was a non-starter. :( The only one he likes is the Ham and he wouldn't even eat that.

Thanks, Sienne. His dental was exactly a month ago today. They took out everything except for the tiny little front incisors, opening flaps in his gums to remove all the roots. I know they did an x-ray but I don't know if that was before or after the surgery; before, I would guess.

I've been managing to get small amounts of food into him, but he is loosing weight (over a pound since surgery) and that really worries me. Thankfully he goes to see the dentist tomorrow morning; if he can't give me answers, we'll go from there to our regular vet. I will ask the dentist about x-rays following the surgery!

Thank you, Ella! :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:
A tooth fragment is exactly what I wondered, too! It happened to my mother years ago and caused her all manner of pain! No luck with the baby food today. He ate about 1 oz of cat food, really almost soup with lots of added chicken broth.

I hope you are doing well, at least, as well as can be expected. Sending many, many :bighug::bighug::bighug:s.

T'ank you, Miz Ella, I'ze hangin' in dere!

Thanks, Sina! :bighug:❤️:bighug:
He's pretty much the same this AM, he ate a little bit of food swimming in a lot of chicken broth, so at least that's something (the food was swimming, not the cat, lol! At least I still have a sense of humor!). Negative on the ketones but I am planning to check again next time I catch him in the box. I am exhausted just from worrying about him, but I have terrible insomnia so I'm used to being exhausted. :)
