I'm not sure if I'm calling it the right thing, but we finally had a successful test last night about an hour after our boy ate, and got a 64!!!!!
Rewind a little bit..and forgive me if this is a mess:
Diagnosed 1/18/2020
I noticed increased thirst around 11/1/2019
I thought it was just that..he was thirsty~Silly me thought he was getting healthier, drinking and eating better/maybe even was exercising more because we had more room recently(justifying him losing a few pounds too)
Thirst increased quite a bit more and more, and about a month or so later I noticed he was really attacking the wet food we put out each night.
This led me to google, and google said sounds like diabetes.
So an appointment was made with the vet and google was proven right about his symptoms and the vet said his glucose was around 300
first insulin dose was 1/29 at 1 unit and continued twice a day, as long as he was eating at least 2oz of wet food
We cut out all dry food and his temptation treats, and started mixing his wet with the new wet food found on the list here..he likes chicken and tuna special kitty pate/This was probably around the 1/18 as well
We were feeding twice a day instead of leaving it out/vet suggested
On 2/9 I spoke with someone I hope you all get the pleasure of meeting..and I hope I'm spelling her name right, Shel.
I needed that talk more than anything..and ironically that day I had skipped the dose on our boy because he didn't attack his food for the first time/I didn't want to give him a dose without a good amount eaten first.
well, Shel drove the point home about TEST TEST TEST before dosing, and so I just did my best ,and said some prayers that our boy"s eating/drinking habits had slowed down again to show us that he was doing better..so I just let him win on running from me for a few days because I suck at being 100% sometimes, then buckled down and just held him on my lap and with the help of my wife, we got the test done. 2/16/2020 about an hour after eating, got a 64, and he hasn't had insulin for about a week
I know I skipped around and I've probably forgotten some vital things, but I promised Shel I'd post, so here I am
Fingers crossed while I continue to test, but we're all sleeping better already.
