What is it that I need to make sure it's the lowest #. Is it:

Ash, Phosphorous, or Magnesium?

I thought it was magnesium, but then the vet said ash. Not only that, I've heard it's phosphorous. NOW I'm confused.

Thanks in advance.

If UTI, the Friskies Special Diet pates should be fine.
If renal disease/CRF/kidney disease, its phosphorus. The Friskies Special Diet pates are still fine, as may be some others.

I do have Friskies Special Diet in a few flavors, thankfully. I'm hesitant about feeding him some because I have no idea how it'll affect his current situation as he's still bleeding. Our vet already knows about it, and I took him there last Tuesday to get a urinalysis and blood work for his kidneys done. The blood work stated that there is no renal failure. His kidneys are fine... Main is fine, but the BUN (blood, urine, nitrogen) are elevated as he wasn't drinking much that day. Now, he appears to be drinking more, which is good.

So, what do I need to watch for then... The ash, phosphorous, or the magnesium, or all of the above?

Increased hydration will help most of these - reduces concentration of minerals which may cause stones, offsets excessive water loss from kidney impairment, flushes out/dilutes bacteria or allergens which may cause bladder irritation, etc.

renal failure - reduce phosphorus
stones - reduction of the mineral the stones are made of
bacteria - antibiotic

Thank you, BJM. I know he doesn't have renal failure as we've already tested for that. Still awaiting the lab results from the urinalysis, which will be sometime next week.
