My sugar baby has been OTJ since July until about 10 days ago. I did a spot check on her as I sometimes do and noticed her numbers were up there compared to her normal greens. Over the course of the next several days and a few vet trips, it was determined that she had an UTI and was finally sent home with clavamox. The vet told me not to give her any insulin for a few days and see if her numbers start to come back down after some days on an antibiotic.
That was the 20th. So on the 22nd, I checked her at PMPS time and her numbers weren't that bad. 155.
So I *thought* all will be well. Two more days, and I checked her mid afternoon and back in the yellow she was. That evening at PMPS, she was still yellow so I gave her a unit. Couldn't check her that night, but at AMPS she was yellow again, so another dose. She had a relatively good day surfing the blue and by +10, she was still doing pretty good. I left her alone and checked her one more time before going to bed and she was just about near 200, so I gave her a dose.
This morning, she was yellow, so I dosed her. Checked on her fairly early in her cycle and damn near posted a 911 on the board. She was down in the 60's at +3. So my freak out meter was on full swing, but we managed to come along nicely. She surfed in the green for a little while, now here we are, time for PMPS and she isn't high enough, imo.
Sorry this is wordy, that's just me. I am just concerned and don't know what to make of this.
She has only been on the clavamox for 7 days and has 7 more to go. Is it plausible that her UTI is still bothering her and that's why her numbers are like they are? Is it possible that her pancreas is just sput-spput-sputtering but just not enough and perhaps only intermittently?
Is there any damage I could be doing to her if I am giving her insulin and the only reason her numbers are high is because of the UTI?
I'm pretty sure she will probably be back in the yellow (hope I'm wrong) by bedtime so I really need to figure out should I continue giving her juice even if at odd times and not on a 12/12 schedule?
Any input is appreciated. My SS is up to date if what I am saying sounds confusing.
