Urinating outside of box (non-diabetic cat)

I purchased some of the puppy pads today but am unsure how to introduce them.

He was closed in the bathroom again all night, I let him out when I got ready for work and played with him a bit. And put him back while at work. He did pee in the box while in there.

Let him out and he spent about an hour eating then going around the house rubbing on everything. I left him alone for a few minutes and he peed on something left on the kitchen counter. Luckily it was something that could just be thrown away and the counter is easy enough to clean.

Do I put the pad where he goes? That could be anywhere in the house!
Should it go near the litter box?

It’s as if he’s in the box and squats, but before he goes he decides to find someplace better and go there.
I always kept it by the litterbox. It doubled as mat to catch litter crumbs.

I put the puppy pad in the bathroom along with the litter box.

He peed in the litter box and left the puppy pad alone.

This morning while he was out, he announced that he was going to pee on the kitchen table.

So, I picked him up and put him next to the litter box.

He went in and peed in the box. So I rewarded him with a few pieces of kibble.

He used to announce his inappropriate peeing pretty often but he doesn’t do it as much anymore, probably because I stop him!

What a little stinker. He picks weird places to go. Most look for corners or doors.... a table is strange.

So, I did this...

And he peed in the top box!!!

Fingers crossed that it continues!

I know you said they did a urinalysis, but how are the kidneys? Can you post his lab results? I want to see the creatnine and bun numbers.

Specific gravity was 1.062
Bun/creative ratio was 16
The test results were attached to a prior post (#40)

I had another urine test done on Monday. I don’t have the actual results back but the vet said it’s still pretty concentrated but better.

Since I’ve been keeping him segregated for a lot of time, I’ve been giving him some Royal Canin Urinary SO mixed in with his regular food (Friskies pate). He won’t eat it on its own. It’s supposed to make home want to drink more but I haven’t noticed that he is. I have been mixing some water in with the food though so there’s that.

The vet suggested a behaviorist. Sounds expensive.

She also said to get the Feliway spray and spray it in the litter to make it more attractive to him. But from the Feliway site, I got the impression that I wouldn’t want to do that but rather spray it in places that I DONT want him to pee.
So I’m confused about that.

Ugh! And just now we were hanging out on the bed. He jumped down and 2 minutes later he’s in the other room meowing. I get in there to see what he’s doing and right in front of me he squats and starts to pee. I picked him up and put him next to the litter box. He looks at me like I’m crazy and walked away, curled up in his bed and asked for petting.

I don’t get it.
