I have to inject Roma at 17.30,but he has vomited few times with a big amount of food. His sugar level at this moment is 22.7.What I supposed to do?Inject and feed or only feed?:(

Try feeding him a little bit more food, just a little. Then wait 20 minutes to make sure he'll keep it down. His blood sugars are high enough (409) that I don't think it'll be a problem injecting but let's make sure he can eat a tiny bit first.

thanks a lot!

And please update your spreadsheet too before you shoot. Are you still giving Caninsulin as per your signature? With Caninsulin you want to make sure he feeds and keeps in down before shooting. With Lantus or Levemir, they are gentler insulins. I first thought you were on Lantus because you are posting on the Lantus/Levemir board. If Caninsulin, don't shoot if he's not keeping food down.

OK,will do.I will check my signature to fix.He has been on Lantus since 07/02/17.

On your spreadsheet, please put a blank line before 07/02/17, and put "start Lantus" or something like that in there. I couldn't tell from your spreadsheet that you'd changed. It also looks like you are dosing Lantus like you did Caninsulin, by looking at the preshot values. We dose Lantus based on the nadirs, or how low the dose is taking the cat. It means holding a dose a minimum of 6 cycles (if using Tight Regulation) or 7 days (if using Start Low Go Slow), unless the cat earns a reduction.

Does Roma seem fine other than the vomiting? Litter box contributions OK.

Yes,he seems OK.

He is keeping his food down now.I skipped the shot, because wasn't sure how much need to inject when the number is unusual small in the Morning .

Did you shoot tonight? If he's keeping food down, it's OK to shoot.

176 may have been unusually low for Roma, but if you were home to monitor, which it looks like you were, it would have been a good opportunity to shoot and see what happens. Your other option since you were around would be to shoot a smaler dose to get some insulin in him. Otherwise he'll end up high like he did today. Lantus is really good at keeping lower numbers low and flatter. When you shoot lower numbers, the cats do not drop nearly as much as they do from higher numbers.

Yes,I did 0.5U. Might be is better to stay on 0.5U for up to 1 week and see what happened?

Sure, sticking with the 0.5 dose for one week will give us a good picture of what it can do, and whether he needs an incresae.

If you are around to monitor, I would definitely shoot above 150 for sure. For those people following SLGS, they lower their no shot level over time and eventually end up shooting anything over 90. But if you can monitor when he gives you a lower preshot number, it gives you the chance to see what he does so you can be comfortable if he gives you a lower number when you have to be away for that cycle.

If you are not around to monitor, or he's lower than 150 or it doesn't feel right, it's OK to give a lower dose, maybe 0.25 units and leave him lots of food around to munch on to keep him safe while you are gone. The other thing you can do if you have the time, is to stall, which means DO NOT FEED and wait 20-30 minutes and retest again to see if his numbers are up enough to shoot.

Thank you very much,Wendy. Will keep you updated.:bighug:

If you ever see a preshot number you are worried about, then stall - do not feed, and post here for help.
