URGENT - Maddy won't eat and it's getting close to PMPS

Maddy was recently diagnosed with a UTI and I started her on a course of Clavamox this afternoon. It really upset her stomach and she has been throwing up all afternoon and evening. About an hour ago I feed her a little bit of watered down food with a syringe and then two syringes full of water. She just vomited it all up. She's supposed to get her evening dose of insulin, but I don't think she's going to eat.

My plan is to try and give her a bit of food and half of her normal dose. I'm also going to give her sub-q fluids because she must be dehydrated.

Any advice?

i'm so sorry the clavamox upset get stomach. i also do the sub q fluids when my civie Gracie gets a uti. it's much easier than giving water to drink because of that upset stomach. if the clavamox continues to upset her stomach like that maybe you should stop it and see if your vet has anything else you can try that won't bother her tummy. do you know how she reacts to insulin if she hasn't eaten anything? your plan sounds good. hopefully some one else will be along soon to advise you but i think i would do the same as you.
 
Okay, she has a nice little pouch of saline now and half her dose of insulin.

I've had success with Clavamox in the past and wanted to use it again for this UTI because I'm uncertain if the Baytril really worked last time. I think the big mistake was giving it to her on an empty stomach. After we get through tonight, I'll try again tomorrow. Hopefully, if I give it to her with food it will go better.

Though her numbers have really spiked, she's not showing any signs of DKA. Her breath is normal, she's moving around, etc. But, of course, I'll be watching her closely tonight and get a ketone test in ASAP.

Does Maddy like chicken and broth? When Saoirse's tummy was very bad I gave her tiny amounts of finely minced poached chicken (on the hour at times). I was worried about getting fluids into her but thankfully she could tolerate the broth OK. I gave it to her diluted 50:50 with water. She wasn't vomiting, but she was struggling with diarrhoea (possibly exacerbated by antibiotics). The bland diet helped me to keep her fed and hydrated. Don't know whether this may be of any help to you, but it's the only thing I can offer by way of suggestions.

I ended up blending some of her freeze-dried chicken treats with water to create something that is the consistency of milk and feed that to her with a syringe. I'm waiting to see if she can keep it down.

Her glucose levels have decreased a bit. She's down to 366.
 
As soon as I read your post, April, I remembered that sometimes out of desperation I gave Saoirse some of her freeze-dried chicken treats so that she would have at least some trickle of incoming food (petrified of HL after losing Danú). Saoirse did not show nausea symptoms when I gave them to her. Actually, I've nicknamed them 'kitty saltines'. I hope that your 'treat soup' will help Maddy. cat_pet_icon It is such a worry when our kitties can't eat. nailbite_smile
