Hi All,

I have been contacted by a friend (I am in Maryland-US----friend is in Toronto, Canada) who is, essentially, apartment bound and no money---worried about his 17 year old cat. Over the past few days I have been asking questions and made up a whole list of possibilites. The original issue he said was that she was, every now and then urinating on his bed. He cannot get her to the vet and could not afford it if he could--so there is no information. Today I was emailing him about inapproprite urination usually being medical and... when he went into more detail and started talking about how MUCH urine there was. Diabetes shot to the top of the list. Is there anyone in the Toronto area who might be able to talk with him or maybe do a BG to see if the cat IS diabetic? Once there is a definitive diagnosis it will be a more focused approach! Thanks

Does your friend have a computer? Could you get your friend to come online here and he/she will get tons of help directly. There are several Canadians here and some that may be close enough to teach the person how to home test. If the person can come on the board, I know the response will be greater and someone may be able to help.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, he has a computer--but knows nothing about the medical aspect of cats. I told him I would check out the site for him--i.e. if I do the gourp work he might not feel too overwhelmed and actually rgister and post. When I will do is cut your reply and send it to him. I already gave him the link (and knowing it is the right thing to do doesn't mean someone who is reticent will do it!!) and said I would get back with information ASAP. So- thanks again- I'll cut/paste and email him--and see if he will make the contacts directly. I know he cannot get around but I am not sure if he is wheelchair bound..no car either etc..

Thanks- one more steop taken now to see if I can coax him to take the next one and at least see if he can find someone to check BG!

You might go up to the Search function and enter Toronto. That should give you several people who live there. Then you could send them a private message asking for help.

Thank you all-- I have sent him the information and cut/pasted the list of Toronto members. Um, I went up to the search box and put in Toronto (hope that is whst was meant)-- but only got a hit as my original post. He has emailed me back to say he will register-- fingers crossed. I just don't know what resources are there tht might help him or anyone who might be able to help rule diabetes in or out! One step at a time and this is progress (Lord give me patience AND I WANT IT RIGHT NOW!).

Thank you- I was not sure whether or not to use the 911 (not sure how much of an emergency...) and glad to know to remove it--it seems that (I had no idea how to remove it) just going back to the original post and clicking none did the trick-- hope so. Again, thank you for telling me!!
