I was seeing some lower numbers, and now they seem to be getting a little higher. I just decreased to 0.5 units recently. Do you think that is why? Do you think I need to wait a while for her body to adjust? I have also continued the metamucil for her loose stools and started (last night) fortiflora. I hope and pray they work. She has had loose bms ever since I switched her food when she was first diagnosed. Any suggestions (other than more frequent testing and wet food) would be appreciated.

Just looking over-
1- are you giving metamucil or mirilax?
2- did you double test the 52? It seems strange midnight went from a 52 to a 308 in an hour- even with dry- and this is low carb dry at that. But for not having any insulin at the PMPS her AMPS was pretty good the next morning.

It almost seems as if you need to try somewhere between the .75 and the .5. too bad Mel is out right now she could give you pointers.

Metamucil and I just started fortiflora for the loose bowel movements. The 52 might have been a too small sample of blood.maybe it wasn't accurate.

Whenever you get a BG number that does not fit the 'pattern' it's always a good idea to get another test to confirm.

I hate to say this but you said Midnight has had diarrhea since the food switch. Maybe there is something in the EVO food that is causing the diarrhea/loose stools?

What about trying the Wellness Core, Nature's Variety Instinct or Young Again Zero Carb (mail order only)?

Remind me again what food Midnight was eating before you switched to the EVO.

Purina dm. The loose stools (not diarrhea) started when she was on that. The only time she had diarreha was when I tried wet food.

The Purina DM dry has soy and corn as two of the ingredients. Those are common allergens for cats.
Gluten is another common allergen that can cause loose stools.
The Evo Turkey and Chicken formula dry has herring meal. Fish is a common allergen in cats. I wonder if fish is an allergen for Midnight.

What foods were you feeding before the diabetes diagnosis? Any diarrhea or loose stool issues with those foods?

I'm trying to track down an ingredient that may not agree with Midnight's digestive tract. That is why all the questions.

She was on Hills RD before that, to lose weight. Now the vet is happy with her weight (9 pounds).

Have you checked the expiration date on your bag of EVO to verify it is after March 24, 2014? The EVO/Natura Pet pet food recall was expanded to include all cat foods and treats for all lot numbers and expiration dates up to 3/24/2014 due to possible salmonella contamination.

Trying to think of everything here for a cause of the loose stools.

Corn and soy in the RD so if Midnight was fine on that food, probably not allergic to soy or corn.

Than that EVO food is part of the recall. The recall was for possible salmonella contamination. Think of food poisoning symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, upset tummy, not eating well. Symptoms from mild to severe would be possible.

The food may be ok but you should probably find another food for now and contact EVO for a replacement product.

I'm sorry. One more complication you absolutely did not need.

They told me it was not part of the recall. There are only 3 mailing days until I will be gone for a week and there is no place around here to get low carb high protein food. I will try to figure something out.

Also, she does not have diarrhea or loss of appetite or vomiting. But I will try to find something else.

If she is allergic to something in the evo, do you think she would tolerte wellness core or natures variety instinct?

I found Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost. I hope she likes it and it is a good product. According to the list somewhere on this board of dry cat foods, it is 7% carb.

Think of trying a different dry food as a food trial to see if the EVO was the problem with the loose stools.

I don't know who you talked to about that EVO food, but according to the government website that tracks all types of recalls, any food with an expiration date before that March 24, 2014 date IS part of the recall. The recall was expanded on April 19, 2013.

See here: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm348786.htm

I ordered it in early April and asked if it was part of the recall. They said no and I never heard anything firther until yesterday. I am getting a refund, though, and I threw it away.
