Hello All!

Since last Monday, following the advice of some very smart Feline Diabetes posters, I have been following as tight a schedule as I can with Phattie's shots. Except for Thursday night and Friday AM, I have been giving her shot within 7 minutes of 7am and 7pm. I am giving her 1.25 each time. She has been in the 200' and 300's all week. Is it time to up the dose a little?

Also, I just read another post mentioning that a couple of hard treats can really throw off their levels. I switched Phattie to a low carb diet, but I have been giving her 1 or two of the Whiskas Temptation Hard treats with soft centers after her shots and testing. Think those could be raising her levels at all? She won't eat any other treats.. :(

Thanks in advance for all of your advice. Phattie and I appreciate it.

Yes, I'd increase his dose by 0.25u.

If you don't know the treats are low carb, I'd assume they are not. Pure meat would be: cooked chicken breast, freeze dried meats, cooked turkey (no sugar injected), a bite of steak would be ok. If she won't eat those, give a bite of her regular low carb food.

Would you add the brand of meter you are using to the signature line, please? It's important for us to know if you are using a pet meter or human meter.

Thanks again, Julie. Just wanted to double check before I moved forward.

I'll take away those hard treats and up the dose by .25.

I am using the Walmart Relion Micro for humans. I just added it to my signature.

I agree with Julie -- it's time for a dose increase. If you're following the Start Low Go Slow (SLGS) approach, then if numbers aren't in the range you want them, then after a week, you increase the dose.

Temptations are a high carb treat. Sorry! If you're not sure whether they're affecting Phattie's numbers, stop giving them to her and see what happens.

Clarification - The meter is the Confirm Micro. ReliOn is WalMart's brand.

Good luck with the increase! We had one member who used the Temptations treats as a high carb food to bring her cat up when she was low, so yes, time to find another treat.
