I just got Gobbles' lab results taken 2/26 in the mail today (Antech). Below are the tests that have "high" results. And the complete test results can be found in Gobbles SS. Comments? I am procuring past test results this week and will add to his SS once received.

ALT 127 (Range 10-100)
Cholesterol 260 (Range 75-220)
Neutrophils 9779 77% (Range 25500-8500)

Urinalysis:
Protein Trace (High) (Range Negative)
Glucose Trace (High) (Range Negative)

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

The only thing I understand is the glucose in the urinalysis- if Gobbles isn't regulated that could mean he had glucose built up enough to spill over in his pee.

If he is regulated then I haven't a clue, sorry.

All other is mumbo-jumbo to me.

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

I can't talk to those either but urine glucose is representative of him being over the renal threshold for the hours prior. Giving he is bouncing high last night that's what you are seeing. Had he done the test tonite instead it would probably be clear since gobbles was in greens and blues all day.

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

Same thing applies, the urine collects in the bladder and basically shows the sugar in it that has gone there over the few hours prior.. When he was high BG (spills into urine approx over 270).

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

Thanks :) I'm going to post those numbers in my Condo today....

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

Since Gobbles is diabetic I would not be concerned about any of the values. The Also, a liver value is only slightly high as were cholesterol and neutrophils ( a type of white blood cell). The protein in the urint tents to indicate some kidney degradation which is not that abnormal in older cats. Do y have the value of the urine specific gravity? that is a better indicator of kidney problems.

Yes. Urine specific gravity is 1.040 and it says the range is 1.015-1.060

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

The 1.040 is pretty good. With no kidney problems it should be above 1.040.

Thank you for taking the time to answer; I appreciate it. Have a lovely day!

Re: Gobbles Lab Results - Comments Please on High Values

Merck Veterinary Manual provides an overview of many tests.

ALT 127 (Range 10-100)
Cholesterol 260 (Range 75-220)
Neutrophils 9779 77% (Range 25500-8500)
Elevated alt and cholesterol suggest the liver is being affected. One thing you might do is replace 1/5 of the canned food with very lean meat (per Dr Pierson of Cat Info) to reduce the fat content somewhat. This may reduce the cholesterol some. Also, remember that when there isn't enough insulin, the body breaks down fat for calories; this could be a factor too. Denmarin may be helpful; discuss with your vet.

Urinalysis:
Protein Trace (High) (Range Negative)
Glucose Trace (High) (Range Negative)
These most likely reflect the diabetes is not completely controlled. They may also indicate some impairment of renal function so you may want to keep an eye on the phosphorus content of the food. Pop over to Tanya's feline crf site to do some reading.

Wow-what a website--its a lot to take in, and great for reference. I bookmarked it and will surely read it from time to time. Thank you so much! I just got back from the vet to pick up Gobbles' January labs and have entered those on my SS. It's amazing how easy the SS makes it is to see the differences--and there are several! His ALT on 1/7/13 was 75 and 2/26/13, 127. I have visited Dr. Pierson's site and am making changes re: replacing part of his diet with lean meat. With regard to the Phosphorus, I have gone to Tanya's site for more information.
