Tiger is slowly beginning to eat more each day. She is eating the A/D to help add some weight back to her.

She had her dental a couple weeks ago and they removed a few teeth. We switched her pain meds last week and on Saturday she also started on budesonide. That seems to have helped the most. Now instead of it taking almost 10 hours for her to finish a bowl of food, she eats most of it within 30 minutes.

Very sorry to hear that Tiger has been having such difficulties eating. I know how very worrying that can be - inappetence is so frightening to deal with.

I'm so glad that she's eating well now. It must be a tremendous relief. :)

It is a relief. She should normally weigh about 8-9 lbs. However, she was down to 6 lbs. The bloodwork showed early stages of CRF. I also had x-rays and a ultrasound done to see if they could find anything. She also had a dental because she was way overdue.

Originally they did not want to start her on the budesonide. However I have another cat with IBD that had lost a lot of weight initially and it helped her. Finally they agreed to start her on it. Sometimes you just have to follow your instincts and push the vet to try something different.

Saoirse was diagnosed with stage II CRF a couple of months ago as well. I'm giving her ondansetron BID and famotidine SID now and it's helping her. She has just started on a phosphorus binder (Pronefra) but I'm not sure whether her digestive system will be able to tolerate it: one of her stools wasn't so good today. I'll know in a few days whether it's a goer.

I know what you mean about needing to push the vet. Saoirse has subclinical hypothyroidism which the vet hasn't been keen to do anything about, but her clinical signs are worse than her bloodwork. Her last labs came back in lower part of normal range but her fur is being affected - shed all her guard hairs last week and her coat has been rusting again over the last few months. I need to do something about it and I have an idea of what that is. Your comment about following one's instincts has given me a bit more courage of my convictions.

I hope the budesonide will help Tiger feel much better soon.
