Hello all.
Apologies for the long paws (hehe) in my updates - we have been very busy as of late!
So, without fur-ther (I can't help myself!) Ado, I'll get to the goods on snuggys status:
Two weeks ago snuggy went in for exploratory surgery. At first I had decided against surgery for two reasons: 1. we were unsure if he had FIV, and didn't want to risk any kind of infection and 2. I felt that KNOWING he had cancer would only taint the time we had left - I wanted to enjoy our life together.
I got to thinking though, and decided that it wasn't good pet care to forgo the surgery. If snuggy had cancer or FIP, then we would wait until he felt pain or discomfort and end his suffering. However, if it was something like inflammatory bowel (that he would live with for years) I didn't want him to live in discomfort that I could treat. Plus, through minor detective work, I was able to get his original vet records from his first owner and found that he was, in fact, vaccinated for FIV and so that was most likely what was causing the on again off again positive FIV results. So, surgery it was.
Snuggy handled the surgery beautifully. They took a biopsy of his intestones (profusely swollen throughout), an entire lymph node (multiple were reactive), a biopsy of his liver (stated it "looked strange" wjen they got in there), and a sample of free standing abdominal fluid that they found. He pulled through great with no complications and after one day, was back to his old antics. It was NOT FUN (for me) trying to keep a 10 month old kitten from running and jumping!
Plus, the "cone of shame" was so big that when he's poop and try to bury it, it would drag in the poop and he would come running to me, meowing as if to say "mom! There is poo on my cone!"
One day - 10days after surgery, I took the cone off for 30seconds to wash off said poopies, and snuggy went nuclear on his inscision. He removed about a half inch worth of glue and two stitches. ANOTHER trip to the vet, more stitches and glue, and home we went.
Two days ago I finally got the call from the vet. She told me that the pathologist was SO CONFUSED by snuggy's samples that he had had TWO other board certified pathologists re check his work. Snuggys samples were of good quality - not degraded or contaminated in any way. But they couldn't find evidence of ANYTHING that would be causing the problems he was having. No cancer, no FIP, not Even inflammatory bowel. NOTHING.
Needless to say, I am the HAPPIEST mommy of a fur baby that has ever been! Aside from the diabetes, my snugglet will be healthy and with me for a LONG time to come! I am so grateful to whoever up above brought this about!
I plan to update snuggys SS soon with his numbers from my paper records, he still is usually in the 300's pre shot, so am wondering if he needs a dose change. Let's get through this, then we will cross that bridge!
Hugs and love to all.
