Hi everyone! I haven't been to this board in a very long time. It was a year ago when my cat Pretty was diagnosed with Diabetes along with a UTI. She was prescribed insulin, initially 5 units twice a day which I think was too much as her glucose would continue to increase sometimes to the point of the monitor being unable to give a reading as it was so high. Slowly and thank to the great advise I got from the wonderful people on this board, I started decreasing the dose and observing her closely. I became an expert on doing glucose curves and found out that the less insulin I gave her, the lower her glucose numbers were. I also bought urine strips for cats that would test for many things aside glucose. I also completely took her off dry food and only give her wet food, mainly pate from Fancy Feast. She was 20 pounds when she was diagnosed. Two months after I stabilized her on just one unit of insulin twice a day, her numbers were lower and lower. At the end of December of 2020 her glucose was consistently between 80-95 so no need for insulin. As she started to feel better she was once again playful and energetic climbing everywhere without difficulty. She lost five pounds and she has never been better. Even her coat is softer and shinier than ever. I am so happy to report that she has been on remission for nine months! I still check her glucose levels once a month and her blood glucose is between 80-85. No glucose in her urine either. My Pretty girl is 14 yrs old but she has the energy and the sweet demeanor of a kitten. I am so grateful to all of you who reached out and helped me. Pretty wants to thank all of you as well!!

Isn't it great what a simple change to low carb canned food can do? When China was diagnosed, I put all my cats on LC canned and my 2 civvies (who were both real chonkers) lost the weight they needed to lose and all my cats fur got softer and shinier too (due to getting the water their bodies need)

Congrats on 9 months OTJ!!
