Hello everyone!

Thanks to those who replied the other night - it made me feel a little more comfortable about going over there and testing/shooting.

Here's some basic info about her kitty: her name is Burr, and she's an 11-year old long haired tabby, around 6-7 pounds (pretty small). Her owner thinks she's been diabetic for about a year, and it was confirmed this past summer. I don't know how it was confirmed, exactly. Anyway, she definitely has the neuropathy - she's walking on her hocks.

The good news is, I had some success tonight! I managed to poke her ear and get her BG: 281. And while her owner held her, I managed to get .5 units into her (at least I hope so, the fur wasn't wet). She is a long hair though, so I took my best shot! She was a very angry, hissing and growling ball of fur, though - she even bit her owner at one point! We did wrap her burrito-style in a towel, which definitely helped. And we gave her a little treat before-hand, too.

The schedule is going to be 7 AM/7 PM. I hope she can do it herself tomorrow morning, but I told her to call me if she has a problem. I showed her how the draw the insulin from the pen, and the correct mark to draw it to (I had 1/2 unit syringes left over). I also found out she was feeding her cat both canned and dry, so I suggested that she pull the dry, which she did right away.

We talked about testing, but I think that will be something to ease into for her. She really, really does want to help her kitty - I think she was just feeling overwhelmed, especially financially. At least I can provide the insulin, syringes, and meter/strips for her to use - this is my chance to "pay it forward" and help another sugar kitty momma!

So, wish us continued luck!

This is just so wonderful. I hope your neighbor will decide to log in here.

You may want to print out the sticky notes for her and at the very least, let her get a spreadsheet set up so she can keep a record of how Burr is doing.
