Emmy went into the vets today to get her blood glucose checked and to check her urine for spillage. Today at the vets her blood glucose was 133 and she had no spillage! She has not had any insulin since 11/2 and I have not really changed her diet (I was looking into what was going to work the best for her, but then my vet said not to worry about it). I started checking her blood sugar then and it has been consistently under 200. It has been bouncing around quite a bit.....low of 110 then up to 171 then down to 139, but I was told that was fairly normal for a cat trying to convert back. My vet is very glad that I got the glucose meter when I did, she said after reviewing her numbers for the last two weeks that she felt she probably would have crashed on us if I'd still been giving her insulin 2x daily. I am now to start checking her glucose levels every other day. At the end of two weeks we will re-evaluate her situation and if her numbers continue to stay good, we can drop it down to a couple of times a week for a bit. She expected Emmy to convert back, since she believed her diabetes was prednisone induced, but she honestly expected it to take closer to 6 months rather than 2 weeks, and felt that her fast turn around was due to us catching it early and getting her off the pred. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
