What a ride this has been! Judah initially took sick the week after Thanksgiving with the bladder infection and blockage. After 2 hospital stays with catheterizations, and weekly trips to vet since for shots, antibiotics and a bladder RX this week he FINALLY seems to be on the road to recovery!

At the first visit the suagr was spilling into his urine. He required a couple of insulin shots while in the hospital but then dropped back down to normal. He was been on a canned only diet of Friskies Pate, in fact all of our cats only have that now. We also have his sister Bobbie who is an OTJ diabetic cotrolled by this diet.

Since we've had so much trouble with the bladder issue, and he hasn't shown any diabetic symptoms, I have not been testing him as I haven't wanted to stress him more by testing him. He has been poked and prodded and given RX down the throat with a syringe, taken off free feeding, and made to stay alone in our bathroom(so we could monitor the litter box). Not to mention the entire crew hissed, slapped and wanted to jump him after being at the vets. That finally stopped after a couple of weeks and he is definately the alpha male again.

Still monitoring him by keeping him in the bathroom over night. Plan to begin testing his BG ever few weeks when we test Bobbie. I am sure glad he seems to be finally getting over this and hoping he continues to mend!

Um ... many diabetics do NOT show symptoms if mild. Glucose may not show in urine even while diabetic. This increases the risk of complications down the road - more pancreas damage, renal damage, and neurologic damage.

I strongly encourage you to start blood testing. To minimize the annoyance/discomfort factor, pick up some Neosporin with pain relief ointment (not cream), apply a dab to the ear a few minutes before testing, wipe it off, then do the test. The oinment will help the blood bead up too.

To help with the other cats, you might try a Feliway diffuser or two in the comman areas the cats prefer. Also, take a shirt or towel scented strongly of you and wipe him down with it, to "re-scent" him with the home scent.

We are testing today. I wasn't real clear on that. The vets continued to test him too, and he has been normal everytime he was tested since the initial high reading and following shots. They don't want him on insulin at this time unless his sugar goes back up.

Thx- we'll take all the prayers we can get!

Just home tested him for the first time. He was 97. He has a good vein on his hear that bled nicely. I think his testing treat will be to get brushed- he loves to be brushed. He got all excited when the brush came out!

Bobbie was a 59 so we are doing godd at our house today!
