Just to update those of you that have been helping me out the last 24 hours. I went to Walmart today and purchased the Relion Confirm. So glad I took your advice on doing the at home testing! It was easy as can be for me!
Here is what I have so far...
Fed and gave 7 units at 10:30am
Went to walmart to purchase the Glucometer
First test was at 4+- (62)
2nd test at 6+ (31)
Got really nervous and fed a little nailbite_smile
7+ (36)
8+ (40)
9+ (40)

I was concerned with the accuracy since it is a human tester...I tested this on my other cat which is non-diabetic. His number was 59. This almost makes me wonder how low this meter is reading. I wonder what they are REALLY at????

Anyway, based on these numbers I am wondering what I should do when it comes to 10:30pm tonight and his numbers are still really low? I don't forsee them jumping 100+ over the next 2 hours. I guess we will see...

Jen,

Thank you for updating.
Unfortunately, if this dose is too high for Bailey, it sounds like it. Duration may last up to 14 hours. Maybe more.
Please be prepared to keep spot checking him.
His ears will get sore and he may get fussy, you too - need to stay calm and relaxed or he will feel your tension.

You want to keep him over 50 as much as you can.

Do you have high carb gravy foods?
Honey or Karo?

jen you might have these lows for several hours. do you have high carb wet food at home. if he's gone up due to food given it's not likely to last.
do not concern yourself with accuracy of meter at this point.
we will just stay focused of the numbers we're getting.

Hi Jen, boy am I glad you started testing today. GREAT job.

Ronnie is right, we need to get Bailey above 50 and hold him there. What are you feeding? Do you have any higher carb wet food in the house? Something with gravy would be good. If so, please feed 2 tsp of that and test again in 15 minutes.

If you don't have high carb food, you can mix some Karo syrup into some regular low carb wet food to make it high carb.

i just posted a note on lantus for lantus eyes...hope that's ok.

I replied to this post in Lantus - .... it's a multi-condo in lantus already.
Anyways, I said the same as in Health so we are all good.

jen those are the same glucometers humans rely on to get their bg's so i thinks it's fine to rely on it.

Just fed about 3 Teaspoons of 9 Lives Ocean Whitefish tuna...only wet food I had on hand. Will check again in 15 minutes.

Jen, My One Touch Ultra read only 8 points different than the Antech lab reading. Reli-On compares well in my tests done with the OTU....please don't worry about adding or reducing numbers on your meter to what you think they might be. Rely on what that meter is telling you at the moment in time.

jen i believe the whitefish tuna is a 0 carb food, or very low carb. high carb would be a gravy meat, chicken, turkey fancy feast or something. don't fill him up on low carb. he may be eatting or needing to eat again.
can anyone run out and get a can or two?

i'm thinking the rest of this thread is taking place in lantus folks.
