I want to thank everyone who gave suggestions and support to us for Heba. When he stopped eating this time, we took him back to the Specialty Hospital to determine the cause. He had no energy and had labored breathing on top of not eating and drinking. An ultrasound revealed an enlarged heart, pleural effusion, kidney disease, and pancreatitis. To treat the heart would further destroy the kidneys, and to treat the kidneys would compound the congestive heart failure. The very kind and empathetic vet assisted us in making the decision to end his misery. She said he had probably been compensating for a long time and the hypoglycemic crisis was the whole body crashing. We put him to rest yesterday and know he is not suffering anymore.

Dearest hdnurse,

I am so terribly sorry...

Sometimes the greatest and most loving gift we can give is the hardest on our hearts... Bless you and your heart for having the strength and courage to give your precious Heba the gift of freedom... You will forever be his champion.

Please accept my profound condolences and deepest sympathies... And, please, be gentle with yourself now... Hearts take time to mend...

Fly free, precious Heba! Wear your handsome new wings proudly! Soar high! Send a rainbow to us all. Whisper in your loving, brave parent's heart to tell them you're okay now. Tell them you're eating, frolicking, chasing butterflies, and healthy again...

Tell them thank you.

Much love and countless gentle hugs for you and your heart, dearest hdnurse,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever whispering in my heart, and clearing her dance card to share paws with Heba at The Bridge...

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Your sweet Heba is no longer in pain now. He is soaring with the angels and all of our furbabies who have gone ahead. You did the kindest thing you could for him, and may you always know that he will live on in your hearts. Many condolences on your sad loss of such a wonderful kitty. cat_pet_icon

I am so sorry for your loss of your dearest Heba, but you gave him the final gift of love that we mere humans have to give our furry children. He will live on in your heart forever. We never realize how big a hole in our hearts such a small animal can leave until they are gone.

No more pain for your sweet Heba - the pain is now yours - and I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye - but you gave the greatest gift - no more pain and young and free forever for your loving companion.

Sending many healing prayers and thoughts your way.

I'm so sorry that your Heba had to go ahead. His pain is gone.. sadly yours is just beginning... however, you can rest in the knowledge that he is running free, pain free in the lovely green meadows by the Rainbow Bridge and celebrating with catnip cakes all who arrive after him, to begin their wait for that special day, when all will be reunited.

Sending many many cyber hugs. I am so very sorry for your loss. Merlyn too had kidney heart combo... its a tough one. Heba is flying free now, whole and healthy over the Rainbow Bridge. rb_icon
