So the vet called with the results of Elektras out of house urinalysis and C&S. Apparently she looked great except there is some ecoli in her bladder. So the vet is prescribing 3 different antibiotics. She'll take each for 2 weeks for a total of 6 weeks. Apparently these are 3 antibiotics that kill ecoli. My question...any of you ever experienced this? Any advice for such a long course of abx?

Teasel has had E. coli show up on urine cultures in the past when he's had a bladder infection. He was put on only one antibiotic, Clavaseptin, usually for a week to 10 days. Seemed to do the job.

Not specifically on ecoli. But I read an article not FD but pancreatitis that said diabetic cats need longer course than normal on ABs.

Thanks all!! I got the abx. They gave me Clavamox, Baytril, Cefpodoxime. So I just do 3 rounds...2 weeks of each. I'll try the DMannose as well.

When Callie had her UTI, she was given Clavamox. She was feeling so much better in just a couple of days. She stayed on it for 2 weeks. I hope the combination of abx does the job,

Thanks for asking Sue!

She's still refusing meds. She runs from me. And we've tried everything. She refuses to eat anything if we put her in a room alone with meds and food. I called the vet and they said they can give convenia (I know....). They admitted it wasn't as good a choice but at this point it's better than nothing. She's had it before due to her feral-ness and had no issues. I wouldn't ever give it to my others but for her...well it might be best.

She is acting fine (except eating a bit less than normal I think due to her stay at the vet and my attempts to medicate her). Gosh I wish this cat would take something!!!

Looks like a real dilemma, Rachel. If she has had Convenia before with no ill effects, it seems likely she could have it again with no issues? So does she still have the symptoms of UTI or not? If not, could you put off deciding for awhile?

The thing is she's acting fine. The vet said bacteria was found in her bladder so the abx was to kill it off....I guess so it doesn't cause issues later.

I suppose we could wait and see if it causes issues and maybe try D Mannose for awhile. I had been putting it in food the last few days but didn't this AM since someone threw up last night and during the day yesterday....wasn't sure if that was the culprit or not.
