Well I was so hopeful with Calley peeing less, but I think it was just a fluke. Calley is back to the normal, sick self. Peeing a lot, begging for food, loose stools, and just a general lethargic not feeling well.

I was vacuuming yesterday and she refused to get out of the way and just laid there without moving. Back six months ago when she was healthy, she would run from the vacuum and hide under something.

Another symptom is her eyes. Her eyes leak gunk constantly and at times I think that the pupil just looks weird. Does that sound right?

So my question: knowing that the insulin curve showed that her levels drop like they are supposed, but she is not improving...does that sound more like a tumor in the brain issue? She is at 8 units/2x daily. I have tried both Lantus and now Humulin with no improvement with either med.

Do I just need to put her down and end her misery? She does nothing but sleep all day....in the same place beside the water bowl. I don't know what else can be done for her.

How much does an MRI or CT cost for a cat? THat is the only way a tumor can be determined, correct?

Thank you
Kristin and Calley

Can you provide a reference for the previous BG curves and data?
Last time i checked was that a CT san wo about $1000 and MIR was more than double that.
The gunky eyes could be due to the herpes virus and what helps is L-Lysine, 500 mg twice daily.
What do you mean by the pupils looking weird?
What does your ve recommend?

She has already been on two types of insulin and with both types she has gone up to 9 units/2x daily with no regulation. She has only had one curve done. She has had several glucose tests at the vets every few weeks initially and then once a month afterwards.....and they have all been over 400.

When I say her eyes do not look right...they just do not look clear and full of expression.....not even sure if they are dilating right or not.

The only sign of life really is that she flips her tail here/there. Not sure if it is an involuntary thing or contentment or what.

The vet was happy to see that the insulin curve showed that the insulin brought down the levels, with the increased # of units.

How long should I stay at 8 units before I increase again....if I should even try to up the level?

Thanks
Kristin and a sad Calley

I wish I could give you better advice but I'm new at all this. I believe pzi (is that right?) has had really good results, if your vet would be willing to try her on it. Does he/she think there is anything else going on apart from the diabetes?
Hoping for the best for you both xx

If you post real BG values we can better help you. Some cats requires a higher does. My MurFee is currently on 14 units Levemir twice daily and I am still working on getting better BGs. Now I can generally keep PS below 400 with a few below 300. Her mins are just less than 200.
How is Calley's weight doing?
