I have been giving Tiger .80 shot consistantly for 4 days straight and his numbers are crazy. Just tonight I gave him his shot with his BG at 310 and I checked it at +3 and it was 351. It went up instead of down. Hmmm I don't know what is going on. He is eating the FF classic like always, no dry food at all. :?

Re: Can't get Tiger regulated, need help

If the drop is rapid OR to an unfamiliar low level, the cat may bounce up to higher numbers and you may need to wait out a couple days for it to settle.

Re: Can't get Tiger regulated, need help

I replied in pzi, but will post it here too...
It's possible that he's been going lower than you think in the middle part of the cycle and he's bouncing from that. The only way to know is to try to get reading around +6 give or take an hour. A few days back, those blue numbers looked good, so he was responding to the insulin. Would you be able to get a +6 am and pm sometime in the next couple of days? Carl

Re: Can't get Tiger regulated, need help

I won't be able to get an AM +6 until Saturday or Sunday, because of work. I can only get the other tests during the week at the PM times. I will get more numbers this weekend.

Re: Can't get Tiger regulated, need help

If he's bouncing because he is going too low, backing off the insulin a touch may help level it out.
If the bounce is just because its an unfamiliar, but safe level, holding steady may eventually stabilize it.

You might try using some of the secondary monitoring techniques in my signature link to see what other clues you can identify about his status.
- Ketones can suggest both too high and too low an insulin level. (fat being broken down for calories from not enough insulin, or too much insulin and not enough calories coming in)
- Glucose in the urine suggests not enough insulin.
- Lots of water being drunk suggests not enough insulin &/or or ketones may be present.

Re: Can't get Tiger regulated, need help

I use Ketone test strips and it is fine. He is eating good and peeing normal. Tiger is purring and playing. I am going to try to get more tests in tomorrow. Maybe we can see if he is doing a bounce.

All of that is "good news". We call that the "whole cat report". If he's playing, and purring, and the litter box visits are normal, and he's eating well, those are all outward signs that he's feeling better. The meter readings you get when you test him are important, but those observations don't show up on the meter.

I have posted new numbers on Tiger's spreadsheet. The Am this morning was the highest he has been. Do you think I need to start giving .60 now or do I need to go up on the dose. He is getting .80 now.
