It's about feeding time and Chocolate is at 280?! What should I do? I didn't put out an afternoon meal for her since she didn't completely finish her morning meal but she will undoubtedly dig into her dinner when I put it out in a few minutes. Should I shoot 1 u?

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

I've never seen a number this low on her preshot.....just scared lol...I'm gonna go ahead and shoot and keep an eye on her I suppose

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

This is what we've been waiting for right?
so,.....YAY!
check her tonight at +3 or so to see if she is dropping to fast or anything wierd.
And you do have the high carb gravy food....RIGHT?
gotta have that stuff on hand ALL the time.

This is good.
Congragulations!
Go Chocolate!!!!!!

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

Your going to have a stroke when Chocolate gives you a double digit number....I can just tell

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

I know I am! I have Wellness Sardine Shrimp & Crab which I don't think is gravy but is high on carbs...when reading food charts, the "%kcal from carbs" is the number to look at right? As opposed to the "%carbs as fed?" Should I have some gravy food instead? Petco will close soon and I'm not sure if they even have power back yet after the storm but Stop & Shop will be open later if you think I should get something else.

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

feed the regular low carb food. keep the high carb handy - test her 2 hours after shot time to see what's happening. you don't want to rush with the high carb food, not unless you are under 100.

so, it's good she's coming down, it means things are starting to work. 280 is still in the diabetic zone and safe to shoot number. typically under 250 pre shot is when you question, when just starting out.

let's see what the +2 bg is and then decide next steps - more tests, more food, etc.

Re: FAST REPLY PLEASE!!

Ugh...just tested her at about +5 1/2 and she went up to 344? :? I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fur shot...could the insulin be old?

how old is it? how long has it been opened?

it could be anything. don't freak out over just one number. you want to look at the entire pattern. take another test and see what's happening. I'm wondering if you take a +2 test, what that will tell you.
